Wow…good to be reconnected, Sutha. This article is astoundingly accurate and insightful. As a retired CTO, AI has become my hobby, impacting all aspects of my life…from cooking to psilocybin research to deep reading of classical and historical fiction. What shocks me is how intelligent AI can be: coaching me to catch subtle themes in reading literature, chapter by chapter. But also what shocks me is how much AI gets wrong (e.g., what time does the ferry for Larkspur from the Ferry Building this afternoon?). I have explored asking ChatGPT with questions about which version of ChatGPT I should use for specific purposes. This has been helpful, but what a great idea to have ChatGPT to become a hub, specializing in picking the right platform for inquires: an arbiter of AI. And the Socratic Method idea…brilliant. I’m looking forward to more insights! If you’re in SF, let’s do lunch one of these daze.

I'm an old retired guy and reading this article made me cry. Back in 86 I was a programmer

doing OOP, And I read S.O.M at least 12 times and I was convinced that it was the key to

both expanding human intelligence and creating A.S.I. and when the AI community went

off in a different direction I was devastated, apparently I was wrong. And so was my

mentor who I only knew thru that book. I still think that it is the key to creating an

abstract model of intelligence that is the understanding and unlocking of thinking

which should be done, before writing a single line of code. And a check to see if

the abstract model is correct, is that it should make the designer of this model

measurably more intelligent. Even though I have forgotten all of the details in the

book and know very little about current AI I was able to read this article and it made

perfect sense. As my dad a programmer in the 50's used to say never try to write

a program until you can solve the problem by hand first !
