  • “When science steps out of the textbook, curiosity takes over.” Meet Teacher Cletus Mbala from Masechu Secondary School in Tanga. His students are discovering that science isn’t just about equations and theories, it’s about creating, questioning, and building things that matter. Through the STEM Park, they’re running real experiments, and seeing how what they learn connects to the world around them. And the results? Better grades, confident learners, and a classroom full of imagination. 🎥 Watch how one teacher and his students are proving that with the right tools and environment, learning can truly come alive. • Today, Tanga Fish Aqua conducted a Seaweed Value Addition Training under the Blue Economy Project implemented through the TangaYetu program. The three-day training brings together ten young participants from eight wards of Tanga City, combining theory and practice to build their capacity in transforming seaweed into high-value products such as soap and body oil. Experts from Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries facilitated the sessions, while participants also learned directly from Khadija Adam, founder of Khad Enterprises and a beneficiary of the first phase of the TangaYetu program, who shared her experience in turning seaweed into a successful business. Through this initiative, youth are gaining practical skills in value addition, entrepreneurship, and sustainable use of marine resources, paving the way for job creation and the growth of Tanga’s blue economy. The TangaYetu program is funded by Fondation Botnar and implemented by INNOVEX in collaboration with Tanga City Council, making Tanga a City where youth thrive. #TangaYetu #BlueEconomy #YouthEmpowerment

  • World Mental Health Day reminds us that wellbeing goes beyond physical health, it’s about how we think, feel, and connect with others. At TangaYetu, we believe that supporting youth means nurturing both mind and opportunity. Through our community-driven projects, we continue to create safe spaces where young people can learn, express themselves, and seek support without stigma. Let’s keep the conversation open, show compassion, and stand together for a city where every young person’s mental health is valued and protected. The TangaYetu program is funded by Fondation Botnar and managed by INNOVEX in collaboration with Tanga City Council, making Tanga a City where youth thrive. 🎥 AfyaCheck #WorldMentalHealthDay #YouthWellbeing #TangaYetu #MentalHealthMatters

  • Building a Culture of Learning and Reflection Over two days, implementing partners of all 13 Phase II projects under the TangaYetu program participated in an intensive Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) session aimed at strengthening collective learning and improving project impact. The session, led by Ngesa Maturu from Rural Senses and Nicolas Vetterli from Fondation Botnar, focused on transforming MEL from a reporting tool into a practical instrument for reflection, adaptation, and shared insight. Participants engaged in dynamic exercises that encouraged open dialogue about progress, challenges, and lessons learned across diverse project contexts. On the second day, Patrick Waziri, Program Coordinator of TangaYetu, and Dr. Nyoni guided sessions on participatory MEL, emphasizing the importance of including community perspectives in shaping outcomes. The session reinforced TangaYetu’s commitment to fostering a learning culture, one where evidence informs decisions, collaboration drives improvement, and every insight contributes to meaningful change in Tanga City. • During his recent two-day visit to TangaYetu projects, District Commissioner Hon. Dadi Kolimba visited the FabLab at Tanga Tech. Secondary School, a modern makerspace where young people gain hands-on skills in digital design, 3D printing, electronics, and fabrication. What made the visit even more inspiring was his meeting with students from the Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), who traveled all the way from Mbeya to Tanga for their field training. This moment reflects the true impact of FabLab: a hub that not only empowers Tanga’s youth but also attracts learners from across Tanzania, proving that innovation knows no boundaries.
