Protecting Tanzania’s biodiversity through smarter financing 🌍🌿 Through strong collaboration and commitment, Tanzania is taking bold steps to safeguard its rich natural heritage. In partnership with the Vice President’s Office, UNDP Tanzania has introduced the Biodiversity Financing Initiative (BIOFIN) — a national plan designed to close the funding gap in biodiversity conservation while supporting the country’s sustainable development goals. The initiative focuses on: ✅ Integrating biodiversity into national policies and development planning ✅ Encouraging businesses to adopt biodiversity-friendly practices with financial incentives ✅ Mobilizing diverse financial resources for ecosystem protection ✅ Aligning national expenditures with conservation priorities By linking conservation with smart financing, Tanzania is shaping a greener and more sustainable future. 👉 Learn more about how BIOFIN is driving change: https://lnkd.in/eZbuBPvp #Biodiversity #BIOFIN #Sustainability #UNDPTanzania #ClimateAction

It was a great pleasure to serve as a Master Trainer for UNDP Pakistan Inclusive Insurance Training Programme The journey began with an intensive Training of Trainers (TOT) that brought together five incredible trainers, each bringing unique experience and passion for inclusive insurance. The simulation-based approach allowed us to refine facilitation techniques, strengthen delivery skills, and enhance the overall quality of training delivery. The energy, collaboration, and commitment of the trainers were truly inspiring! This was followed by a three-day national training for insurance practitioners, engaging over 50 participants from across Pakistan’s insurance ecosystem. The sessions explored inclusive insurance understanding, insurance product design, customer engagement, and business viability ,scale and sustainability, sparking rich discussions and practical insights from diverse perspectives. The field visit in Karachi was a major highlight ,conducted as a customer-centric design simulation. Participants met women’s groups who are clients of microfinance institutions to understand their everyday risks, worries, needs, and aspirations, as well as their awareness and readiness for insurance. The exercise helped participants practice real customer research, build empathy, and translate insights into better product ideas using the Human-Centred Design (HCD) approach. I was deeply impressed by the readiness of Pakistan’s insurance sector ,marked by strong regulatory leadership, growing interest in inclusive and microinsurance, and a clear openness to innovation and digital solutions. The discussions and reflections throughout the programme highlighted an ecosystem that is evolving rapidly and ready to scale inclusive insurance solutions. This impactful journey was made possible through the outstanding leadership and coordination of UNDP Pakistan team, under Sana Ehsan’s guidance — whose professionalism, vision, and commitment made the programme a true success. And a great collaboration of the Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan A special note of gratitude to UNDP Tanzania Resident Representative, Shigeki Komatsubara , for the kind support and release that enabled my participation — and to the UNDP Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF) team, especially Alin Valenzuela Saurabh Sharma and Diana Almoro , for the trust, support, and empowerment that made this experience possible. Thank you for creating spaces where professionals like me can grow, lead, and contribute to advancing inclusive insurance globally. Beyond the training, it was an amazing experience in Pakistan — from the warmth and kindness of the people, the delicious local cuisine, and the vibrant markets with high-quality products, to the unforgettable sunset views over the Arabian Sea in Karachi . Every moment was a reminder of how learning, culture, and connection go hand in hand. #insurance4SDGs UNDP Sustainable Finance #InclusiveInsurance

Fighting Schistosomiasis in Tanzania: A Collaborative Effort for Healthier Futures In Tanzania, more than 1,000 families in high-risk areas are working together to combat schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease that affects thousands, especially children. This national effort is supported by the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) through the Strengthening Capacity for Delivery and Uptake of Pediatric Praziquantel Formulation for Schistosomiasis (STEPPS) project, with backing from the UNDP-led Access and Delivery Partnership (ADP), the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), and the Government of Japan. Zanzibar, Tanzania A new chapter began today with the official launch of the Zanzibar National Youth Strategy for Peace and Sustainable Development 2025. The event, held in collaboration with the Office of the Second Vice President, underscored a strong national commitment to empowering young people as champions of peace, unity, and sustainable progress. The Strategy provides a clear roadmap to reduce youth involvement in violence and extremism, strengthen civic engagement, and promote social cohesion. At its heart, it calls for renewed patriotism, community responsibility, and knowledge-sharing as powerful tools to address the root causes of insecurity and marginalization. It places youth at the centre of action — driving solutions that tackle crime, drug abuse, and unemployment while promoting dialogue, advocacy, and sustainable livelihoods. Speaking on behalf of UNDP, Mr. Godfrey Mulisa emphasized that the Strategy’s development was deeply participatory: “By involving young people at every stage — from consultations to validation — we ensured this document is not just about youth, but by youth and for youth.” Key objectives include promoting peace, strengthening youth leadership and capacity, reducing crime, fostering patriotism, and ensuring greater youth participation in decision-making. Gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour, Eng. Zena Ahmed Said commended the initiative, noting that the Strategy will serve as a guiding framework for creating an environment where youth can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and take ownership of their communities’ and nation’s development.
