In 2022, we launched with Marios Vlachogiannis a wild idea: Upcycled skincare, made from spent coffee grounds, sold inside coffee shops, under the brand: ♻️ auraskin.gr. 💯 Almost everyone told us the same thing: “Coffee shops aren’t a skincare retail point.” Fast-forward to 2025, and global beauty brands are now activating pop-ups in NYC coffee trucks. Cafés are becoming beauty destinations. And "Coffee + SPF = Covered" is turning into a mainstream message. Meanwhile, we’ve been doing this since day one — Not just following the trend, but upcycling the waste behind it. 10 tons per month of spent coffee grounds → turned into active skincare ingredients → returned back to cafés. Sometimes innovation looks like a detour- until the world catches up. The Amazon Sustainability Accelerator is a 10-week programme helping new businesses create a more sustainable future, with participants receiving an equity-free grant, expert-led workshops, mentorship from Amazon, and access to AWS computing resources. From skincare products made from upcycled coffee beans to fair-trade chocolate empowering farmers, this year’s start-ups are tackling a range of sustainability challenges. The Accelerator has already helped more than 50 start-ups scale their businesses, increasing sales by over 700%, with previous cohorts securing 45 million euros in funding.
