Earlier this year, we committed £400,000 to the Royal British Legion’s Battle Back Centre and Admiral Nurse services to support veterans’ recovery and provide specialist dementia care to armed forces families. Here, Gordon from the Royal British Legion shares how the centre helps wounded and sick veterans reconnect with who they used to be. How do you train to face multiple threats flying at 3,000 mph with just six seconds to make the right call? That’s the kind of scenario our synthetic maritime training environment, MIMESIS, is built for. MIMESIS is already being used by the Royal Navy as part of training, helping ensure that scenarios like this feel familiar to personnel before they happen for real. A major milestone for the UK’s newest nuclear submarine 🌊 HMS Agamemnon has successfully completed her first underwater testing at our Submarines site in Barrow- just a few weeks after being commissioned into the Royal Navy by his Majesty King Charles III. The 'trim dive’ is a three-day period of testing in Barrow's Devonshire Dock to prove the 7,400-tonne, 97-metre-long attack vessel’s stability and safety. The process is a key moment in the lead up to its departure from Barrow to join her sister boats in the fleet. Today, His Majesty King Charles III visited our Barrow-in-Furness site to celebrate the commissioning of the newest Astute class submarine, HMS Agamemnon. This nuclear powered submarine, the sixth of seven in its class, will soon begin sea trials after completing her commissioning programme. Secretary of State for Defence, John Healey also initiated the construction of the fourth and final Dreadnought submarine, King George VI, which will secure the UK's nuclear deterrent when they enter into service in the 2030's. His Majesty also visited Barrow Town Hall to bestow Royal Port status on the town in honour of its 120-year history as the home of UK submarine construction.
