Beyond Equality

Civic and Social Organizations

Engaging men and boys in workplaces, universities and schools so that they can rethink masculinities and create change.

About us

When it comes to talking about gender inequality at work, more often than not, men are not seen as part of the solution. But the gender pay gap, workplace sexual harassment, maternity discrimination, and unfair hiring & promotion practices will not be overcome by women simply trying harder nor by women “leaning in”. Men must be part of this change. But how? Engaging men in conversations about gender equality can seem daunting - there are lots of potential crossed-wires, insensitivities and awkward language that can make it feel like it’s too much of a minefield to be worth taking on in the first place. And often men don’t see the ways that they too can significantly benefit from more equal and inclusive workplaces. We know that half of the battle is getting past men feeling defensive or like masculinity is under attack. That’s where we come in. --- Beyond Equality runs equality, inclusion and masculinites workshops with men and boys in schools, universities and workplaces.

  • We made Armour a few years ago but its message remains deeply relevant today. Social dynamics and peer pressure shape how boys see themselves and each other. Armour, directed by Alex Davy and created with us at Beyond Equality, explores how the “armour” of traditional masculinity can be recognised and shed. We continue to use this film in our training with adults to spark conversations about empathy, vulnerability, and change because these themes are as significant now as ever.

Breaking the mould, one frame at a time. Social dynamics and peer pressure are powerful forces driving gender-based division among young people. Our short film, Armour, tackles this head-on, showing boys how the restrictive "armour" of traditional masculinity can be recognised and shed. 🎬 Directed by Alex Davy and created in partnership with Beyond Equality, this film is an empowering message: recognising harmful patterns and choosing kindness instead of blame. Watch Armour and follow the incredible work of Beyond Equality as they strive to disrupt harmful norms and create possibilities for positive change, working with men and boys towards gender equality.

The She is not your rehab London event brought together an incredible community of people committed to reimagining healing, accountability, and love. Keynotes from Mataio Taimalelagi Brown MNZM, and Ben Hurst set the tone for a powerful evening of honesty, courage, and connection exploring what it means for men to take responsibility for their healing and impact. The event closed with a rich and thought-provoking panel discussion led by Sarah Brown MNZM, diving deeper into what community healing can look like in practice. At Beyond Equality, we’re so proud to stand alongside movements like She Is Not Your Rehab that open space for reflection and real change helping men and boys live with empathy, accountability, and purpose.

  • It’s us! 👋 We’re the “guys” that Max Murray from BBC EastEnders mentioned, out in schools across the UK having real, transformative conversations with boys about what’s happening in their lives and how they can navigate the world around them. We’re incredibly proud to see our work featured in EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere, and to collaborate on a project helping audiences understand the challenges and pressures facing young people today. A huge thank you to Forest Hill School for welcoming us back year after year, and to our brilliant Schools Coordinator Jamie B and lead faciltator Jamie W, for leading this important work. #BeyondEquality #EastEnders #PositiveMasculinity #EducationForChange #GenderEquality

  • Catch us on BBC Three! Tackling the Real-World Impact of Misogyny We’re proud to feature in EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere - a new BBC Three documentary exploring how online misogyny is shaping the lives and attitudes of young people across the UK. The 30-minute film dives deeper into EastEnders’ current storyline on misogyny, following cast members Diane Parish, Max Murray, and Ellie Dadd as they meet individuals and organisations confronting these issues head-on. As part of the documentary, Beyond Equality joins leading voices - including Professor Harriet Over (University of York) and poet Sam Browne to discuss how we can challenge harmful narratives and create safer spaces for boys and young men to build healthy, respectful relationships. We’re grateful to EastEnders and BBC Studios for working closely with charities like Beyond Equality, The Lucy Faithful Foundation, and End Violence Against Women to ensure the storyline is portrayed with accuracy and care. 📺 EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere airs Thursday 9 October on BBC iPlayer from 6am and BBC Three at 8pm. https://lnkd.in/eTBAi8FT

  • One of the most powerful parts of our work is the way it grows from the community that supports us. We’ve been in conversations with people inside London Fire Brigade for a couple of years, with the women who are advocating for better and more open conversations with there colleagues who are men. The hard work of these women meant that we are now working and building collaboratively with London fire to bring our work together and build a strong partnership. Huge thank you and congratulations to Rhiain and Natasha for all the hard work they did in putting together such a meaningful and impactful conference. And thank you for inviting us along to join you! Daniel Guinness, PhD, Kasey Robinson

How might we inspire and shape online content for young men that tells different stories about what it means to be a man? When we started exploring the manosphere and masculinity influencers with Movember, we always hoped to influence creative and media systems to better meet young men's needs. Today we're celebrating the launch of the Young Men and Media Collective (YMMC) - a learning network and fund for creators, producers, influencers, media platforms, and organisations reaching men and boys online. This year, we've had so many productive and inspiring conversations with media and creative folks - about what motivates young men and the creative levers that draw them in to content. From record labels to streaming platforms, influencer agencies to youth networks - a powerful community of collaborators has been activated. The Good Side | BCorp™ are continuing to research how masculinity narratives are evolving online, and how young men are reacting, to help shape this innovative approach to culture change. More info on YMMC here https://lnkd.in/eM28NGab This work continues to be a career highlight for me and the team, in the methods we're evolving, the insights we're surfacing, and most importantly the real world impact we're contributing to. Thanks to our clients and thought partners Movember and Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice , and to the original learning network partners who helped shape this LADbible Group BBC Studios Bumble Inc. • Workplaces are more than just offices, they’re communities full of people with many roles and responsibilities, including being parents or carers. At Beyond Equality, we design seminars for workplaces that support parents in navigating some of the toughest conversations at home like how to talk to children about cultivating healthy relationships, online content, and even navigating p*rn. By creating space for these conversations in the workplace, we’re helping parents feel more confident, supported, and connected which strengthens both families and workplace culture. ✨ Want to bring a seminar like this to your workplace?
