    Diageo was proud to support The Distillers One of One Auction for the third time, with Port Ellen Prism sold last Friday at Hopetoun House, Scotland. This year’s auction featured 39 lots, generating a record £2.9million for the Youth Action Fund, a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of young people in Scotland. The sale of Port Ellen Prism set a new record for the highest price ever paid for a single bottle from the distillery, a special milestone as the famed Islay distillery celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. It is also the oldest Single Malt ever released from Port Ellen, encased in a one-of-a-kind glass sculpture by Wilfried Grootens, which interprets the whisky’s iconic smoky flavour. Port Ellen looks forward to welcoming the winning bidder at the re-envisioned distillery, which reopened last year after more than four decades.     Interim Chief Executive Officer at Diageo

    Just over a year ago, I joined Diageo – a business renowned for its iconic brands, marketing capabilities and global scale. Having the privilege of experiencing these qualities first-hand has been incredibly rewarding and I’ve been especially proud to witness the passion of our people.   Whilst these factors set us up well, there are clear areas where we need to be doing not only better but also more. In particular, a significant opportunity for us is strengthening how we engage customers and execute commercially.   More broadly, it has been an interesting time to join the business as we adapt to developing trends, including moderation (which has been around for some time). This is prompting us to consider how to ensure we are best set up for future growth in a potentially evolving Total Beverage Alcohol landscape – all whilst protecting what makes us special and leveraging our fantastic portfolio of brands.   Looking ahead, I believe there is much to be excited about, with a real opportunity to accelerate growth. Alongside my leadership team, I am ready for the task – committed to making the most of this opportunity and setting Diageo up for long-term success.
