Bringing the life science and drug discovery communities together to learn, share, connect, innovate and collaborate.

About us

The European Laboratory Research and Innovation Group UK (ELRIG) is a not for profit company whose purpose is to bring the life science and drug discovery communities together to learn, share, connect, innovate and collaborate. We achieve this through the provision of world class conferences, networking events, webinars and digital content. Our values are to always ensure the highest quality of content and that content will be made readily accessible to all, and that we will always be an inclusive organisation, serving a diverse scientific community. In addition, ELRIG will always be a volunteer led organisation, run by the life sciences community, for the life sciences community, on a not for profit basis. ELRIG has evolved from the Laboratory Robotics Interest Groups set up in North America in the early 2000’s, and has become an independent commercial enterprise, with no major benefactors nor significant funding from a single source. Instead ELRIG depends on key partners to provide rent-free venues and the vendor community to purchase sponsorship opportunities at its events. ELRIG is unique in that it considers vendors to be very much part of the life science community and incorporates presentations on their innovations into its podium programming. Led by a board of volunteers, and run by a small team of employees, ELRIG successfully hosts at least 5 conferences and 5 networking events per year, which bring together world class speakers, that present the latest research and innovation from their laboratories. Events vary in size from 40 attendees at our tier 2 events (primarily networking or webinars), to 300 plus attendees at our tier 1 events (primarily 1 to 2 day conferences), to greater than 1500 attendees at our flag ship Drug Discovery meeting. All these events are run as free-to-attend, with speaker expenses and delegate subsistence paid for by ELRIG, which is only possible due to the support of its sponsors.

Young people need to see science and STEM as real, achievable career paths. Each year at Drug Discovery, we open our doors for local school students. Giving them a real glimpse into the exciting world of life sciences and the diverse opportunities it offers. This year, we're thrilled to be joined by local schools: Christ the King, Hope Academy, and St Peter & St Paul. These future scientists got hands-on with practical science activities, explored the exhibition floor, and participated in career talks with our Early Career Professional team, including an informal chat with Kirsty Smitten Award Winner, Dexter Lutsili, and Ade A. (Bros in Pharma) The day ended with a poster challenge, where the students showcased what they learned, and we announced a winning poster that wowed us all (pictured below)! Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special: the schools, teachers, our volunteers, and the exhibitors who spent time chatting with the pupils at their booths and for the brilliant freebies and prizes donated for the poster competition! A huge shoutout to Gareth Langley (Charles River Laboratories) and Harry Hickey (GSK) for delivering the activities, and to Mark Soave, Cassie Messenger, Elaine Duncan for coordinating.

Our CEO shares his thoughts on Drug Discovery 2025 👇 👇

    CEO at ELRIG UK

One of the joys of taking a two-day breather after ELRIG’s flagship event, Drug Discovery 2025, is having the time to scroll through social media and absorb how others experienced it. And wow… judging by the words shared, #elrigdd25 was nothing short of extraordinary. I already sensed that — of all the events I’ve been part of, this one stood out as the most impactful and energising. But it was deeply affirming to see the wider community echo that sentiment. Curious to understand why it resonated so strongly, I asked Copilot to analyse LinkedIn posts and identify the top five descriptive nouns used to capture the essence of the event. Here’s what emerged: 🥳 Festival – fitting, as it truly felt like a celebration of drug discovery. 👭 Conference – a nod to its stature as a high-impact scientific gathering. 🫂 Community – reflecting the collaborative, people-first spirit that defines ELRIG. 🔬 Innovation – showcasing the cutting-edge science and technology on display. 🤝 Collaboration – a recurring theme, especially across sectors and disciplines. And there it is — a near-perfect articulation of the ELRIG team’s vision, brought to life by both our volunteer and operational teams. These words aren’t just descriptors; they’re the DNA of what we set out to build. ELRIG has done more than host an event. It has cultivated a community — one united not only by a shared scientific mission, but by common values and a collective ethos. A community that believes, wholeheartedly, in making world-class science freely accessible to all. To bring this vision to life, I owe a heartfelt thank you to so many people. To the ELRIG Board — thank you for your unwavering support. To the ELRIG Ops Team — your patience, precision, and pursuit of excellence made everything possible. To our Conference Directors — your scientific leadership shaped the heart of the programme. To the Track Chairs — your deep domain expertise and networks brought richness and relevance to every session. To our speakers — thank you for sharing the very best of today’s science. To our exhibitors — your energy, creativity, and commitment to our mission added vibrancy to the event. To our delegates — you are, without question, the most inspiring scientific community in the world. And to every member of our support staff — your professionalism and hard work made it all run seamlessly. Thank you all. Enjoy the photos attached — and yes, I’m already counting down to Drug Discovery 2026, taking place 14–15 October at ExCeL London. Let’s do it all again, even bigger and bolder. 🙏 #ELRIGDD25, #DrugDiscovery, #Innovation Cassie Messenger, Del Trezise, Verena Brucklacher, Mark Soave, Alison Leightley, Nick Clare, Lisa Mohamet, Laura Ajram, Saleha Patel, Rob Howes, Tara Shanks, Clare Cockerham, Sarah Lupton, Emily Norman, Gayshini K., Shazo Aram, Rizwan Chaudhrey, Alex Alderton, Rupa Shree Appa-Pind, Andy Merritt, Laura Eghobamien, MRSB, MBPS, Christian Parker, Dafydd Owen, Heather Pinkett.
