Can You Dig It? 2025 – What a Blooming Success Every year, our much loved Can You Dig It? gardening competition brings out the best of Elysium’s green-fingered talent - and this year was no exception! With over 40 entries from the people we support and our colleagues from services across the organisation, the creativity, care and community spirit on display was truly inspiring. From vibrant veg patches to stunning indoor displays, our eight diverse categories meant everyone could get involved, no matter the size or setting of their green space. This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we're celebrating the incredible work of our Disability Employee Resource Group (ERG) and the real change they're creating at Elysium Healthcare. Led by Co-Chair Catherine Lock, our Disability ERG is more than a support network – it's driving meaningful policy development and breaking down workplace barriers. Key achievements include: • Developing a comprehensive Reasonable Adjustments Policy to support employees from recruitment through their entire career journey • Implementing BSL QR codes throughout our facilities • Advertising vacancies on deaf-specific websites • Creating accessible information standards and training modules • Achieving Disability Confident Level 2 status, with progress toward the next level underway Catherine's vision is clear: "I want to advocate for anyone who is encountering any barriers within the workplace, and work with them to break down those barriers so that they can have equal opportunities, equal access." Through peer support, policy development, and passionate advocacy, the ERG is building a workplace where everyone can succeed. The group meets monthly and provides a safe space where voices are heard and issues are addressed. This World Food Day, we at Elysium Healthcare are celebrating the vital role our chefs and catering teams play in enhancing the wellbeing of the people we support. Food isn't just fuel - it impacts mood, recovery, and overall patient experience. Our chefs navigate complex challenges daily, creating nutritious, delicious meals that cater to diverse needs, from eating disorders and swallow difficulties to allergies and individual preferences. Our Chef of the Year 2026 initiative, running collaboratively with our parent company Ramsay Healthcare, celebrates culinary creativity and the talent of our chefs who make dining experiences central to recovery. Group Hotel Services Manager George De Battista explains: "Food can impact our mood, and our teams and the meals they create really are central to a person's experience of our services. It's not a case of 'one size fits all' – chefs are thinking about what people need as well as what they like." The competition showcases the importance we place on nutrition and its impact on recovery, with finalists creating dishes that will be judged on recipes, portion sizes, nutritional information, presentation and taste – with patient representation on judging panels too.
