Industry professionals want clarity, accessibility, and impact, not inaccessible language and academic prestige. That’s just one of the lessons from our Open Lab’s year exploring open access (OA). Here’s what else we uncovered: 🔸 OA boosts visibility and accessibility, especially outside academia, but cost is still a barrier 🔸 Negative perceptions still linger: it's difficult to escape associations with predatory journals 🔸 Authors are split on licensing and unsure about institutional repositories 🔸 There's confusion around what transformative agreements are and what's available to authors 🔸 The future of OA depends on dialogue, collaboration, and more action. We’ll be taking all these insights forward so we can work towards open access that’s sustainable and equitable for all. If one of these is your biggest barrier to making OA work for you then please let us know in the comments below. About us
Our sector makes an incredible difference to the world, but it’s shrouded in unhelpful traditions, outdated measures of impact and barriers to participation. That’s why since we launched our Real Impact Manifesto in 2018, we’ve been calling out problems in the sector and changing how we work. We’re seeing green shoots of progress, but significant change will require the entire sector to commit and act. So, here in 2022, we’re relaunching our Real Impact Manifesto and asking you to join us in working towards a fairer, more equitable environment where research can have a real-world impact and those within it can reach their full potential.

Books have the power to shape thinking. Long-form research offers depth and influence that often shorter formats can’t match. They can bridge disciplines, connecting ideas across various fields to drive meaningful change. This is true of our open access books programme. We'll support you with flexible OA options and through partnerships with Knowledge Unlatched, creating collections aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Together, we help authors share knowledge on topics that matter, such as sustainability, equity, and responsible management. Ever wondered which open access route is right for you? Since 2014, we’ve been opening up more publishing options to make research more accessible, equitable, and fair for everyone in our community. And because everyone's role is different, we recognise the need to have a variety of OA models and diverse options, not only for publishing, but accessing research and scholarly content, too. Our recent initiative, the Open Lab, is tackling these complexities. Through the Open Lab you’ll see continuous innovation as we explore equity, accessibility, and sustainability through rapid prototyping and stakeholder engagement. If you're curious about the various OA routes available, swipe through our carousel below to see the steps we've taken so far and the options available for you. #OpenAccess #OAWeek2025 #OpentoAll

Is Open Access Enough? In a recent blog, “Access vs Engagement – Is OA Enough?”, authors Ann C. and Katie Davison make the point that OA isn’t just about making research available. It’s about making sure that research is seen, used, and respected within the global knowledge ecosystem. Using Dimensions data, the blog challenges assumptions and explores some of the key issues of OA. For example: 🔸 Over 50% of global research outputs are now OA, yet engagement beyond academia remains patchy 🔸 Citations alone don’t tell us if research reaches policymakers, practitioners, or communities, so who is benefiting? Read their full insights, here: https://bit.ly/3KZtK0a Open Access Week gives us all the opportunity to question and discuss policies and practices and share knowledge globally. Our Open Lab exists so that we can continue these conversations all year round. The innovation hub is testing models that go beyond access to focus on engagement, equity, and real-world impact. #OpenAccess #OAWeek2025 #Equity #RealImpact

New Book Announcement! New Approaches to Mergers and Acquisitions explores the dynamic and often unpredictable world of corporate growth through alliances, mergers, and acquisitions. Just as living organisms experience cycles of birth, growth, maturity, and decline, organisations too face these phases. However, unlike living entities, businesses can achieve immortality through strategic expansion and transformation. Based on both their academic and client-based research, business gurus Fons Trompenaars and Peter Woolliams delve into the crucial role of mergers and acquisitions in securing long-term survival, whether by enhancing core capabilities, diversifying into new markets, or capitalising on synergies between merging entities.
