Eurostar today announces its expansion of up to 50 new double-decker trains by Alstom. The new fleet, named Eurostar Celestia, will be interoperable across all five countries served today plus new destinations, Geneva and Frankfurt. The bespoke design will increase the seat capacity by 20%, with a 400m formation carrying around 1,080 seats per service. This is a significant step in Eurostar’s growth journey to 30 million annual passengers. Eurostar is proud to announce a major step forward in its commitment to sustainable, high-speed travel across Europe. We have signed an agreement with Alstom for the delivery of up to 50 new double-decker trains, representing a €2 billion investment in the future of international rail. The new fleet – named Eurostar Celestia – will be the first double-decker high-speed trains to operate through the Channel Tunnel and on the UK network, expanding Eurostar’s capacity and reach. The trains will also be interoperable across our five-country network, including new destinations in Frankfurt and Geneva. Developed from Alstom's Avelia Horizon platform, Eurostar Celestia has been designed around sustainability, efficiency and accessibility: 🌍 Up to 50% more energy efficient than the current fleet 🔁 97% recyclable materials ♿ Enhanced accessibility and comfort for all passengers, shaped by collaboration with accessibility experts Entering service in 2031, the new trains will deliver a 20% increase in capacity and play a central role in Eurostar’s growth strategy to carry 30 million passengers across Europe.
