A few weeks ago, we hosted Concrete Communities for our gnarliest event at #30ClerkenwellRoad yet - an exploration of skateboarding and the city! 🛹 It was amazing to hear from the skateboarding community, skatepark designers, local authorities and more for a radically different perspective on urban environments. Topics ranged from DIY vs purpose-built to increasing accessibility, budget constraints, and the benefits that a thriving skate scene can bring to communities. Bringing life back to the cherished Waltham Forest Town Hall 🎆 Philip Hepworth's stripped classical town hall has long been an iconic symbol of Waltham Forest. In 2019, we began work on bringing it back to life, animating the exterior into a new civic space for culture, art, and community, and sensitively adapting the interior to bring the council's staff back together under one roof. While we completed the restored town hall in 2022, we continue to work closely with the London Borough of Waltham Forest on the site, including the Category B Fit-out of their new civic building next door. It has been wonderful to see the evolution of the civic campus! Here East at the #SeoulBiennale 🇰🇷 While in Seoul earlier this month, the team took time to admire the #HumaniseWall, including images of our project, the Gantry at Here East, a series of modular huts accommodating start-ups, creatives, and small businesses. Here East - the retrofit that keeps on giving! 🌼 We were so pleased to hear that Here East, our Olympic-Media-Centre-turned-mixed-use scheme in Stratford, was highly commended in this week's British Council for Offices National Awards in their new Customer Experience category. We designed Here East to be a world-class example of how to turn existing assets to vibrant new uses, and to encourage collaboration, innovation, and design. By reconfiguring the monumental space to be more human-scale, we've helped create a home for the V&A, UCL, and businesses of all shapes and sizes across multiple sectors. With Victoria North designated as one of the twelve locations for new towns in the independent New Town Taskforce report last week, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to share some of our work in the area. Following our design for Victoria Riverside, now under construction, we're turning our attention to Red Bank NT02 and NT03, the next plots shaping the emerging neighbourhood. We designed from district to doorknob, prioritising the public realm, connections to the nearby natural landscape of the Lower Irk Valley, and active street life, all while providing more than 900 new homes for Manchester. Using modern methods of construction to enable the delivery of quality homes for Ireland 🏡 We're pleased to share the publication of the Standardised Design Approaches Study for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, which shares new insights into designing high-quality housing using modern methods of construction (MMC). Led by our Dublin studio in collaboration with Mitchell McDermott, Ramboll and Jensen Hughes, we hope that the study will provide valuable practical guidance on best practice, enabling the delivery of sustainable, quality homes across the country.
