    Building with AI

Thrilled to step into my new role as Head of Machine Learning Engineering at Limbic! I joined earlier this year to help build a new LLM-powered Clinical AI assistant that has now been revolutionising how patients access mental healthcare across the US. It has been an incredibly rewarding journey working with world-class people to build a product that helps people in need: - Every day, 1K+ patients interact with Limbic, making therapy more accessible. - Limbic goes beyond replacing existing processes with AI and every day we help 189 people recover from their mental health challenges who otherwise would not have recovered. We are growing the Research & AI team! If you're an outstanding AI/ML Engineer passionate about building technology that improves lives, I'd love to connect. If you know someone like that who may. be looking for a new role, please let me know! Please reach out to me directly or apply here to join our mission: https://lnkd.in/exYBZNS4

“The UK will produce the world’s most consequential health AI company.” That's what I said on stage at the Sifted Summit last week. Why? Because of the NHS. We have a rare data asset that's longitudinal, well-labelled, and nationally cohesive. It’s also a large value-based care system, where incentives are aligned to improve outcomes at affordable prices... a catalyst for responsible AI innovation. Combine this with decades of homegrown, world-class AI talent, and the UK sits in pole position to own a meaningful share of one of history’s most consequential technologies (#AI) in one of the world’s largest markets (#healthcare). ⚠️ But there’s a major failure mode ⚠️ Without (1) substantial scale-up capital, and (2) hospitable markets that present meaningful commercial opportunity, the UK risks incubating the world’s most important AI companies, only to watch them go abroad and generate GDP elsewhere. This is a key moment for our future on the global stage. We are set up to lead in health AI... the opportunity is ours to lose. Keir Starmer The Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP Peter Kyle Varun Chandra Vin Diwakar Lawrence Tallon Baroness Gillian Merron Matt Clifford (My thanks to co-panelists Bindi Karia, Martin Ott, Petr Kozyakov, and Freya Pratty for an excellent discussion 🙏)

"Most companies were avoiding regulatory scrutiny, operating under vague wellness claims or pushing products that danced around medical device classifications. We chose a different path. From the outset, we committed to building clinical-grade AI that could meaningfully improve patient outcomes, and that meant embracing regulation not sidestepping it." Becoming the first Class IIa medical device for an AI mental health chatbot wasn’t an easy route, but for us, it was the only option. Because building safe, trusted, and regulated AI is what patients deserve. Check out Acorn Compliance's latest piece “From Startup to Class IIa: What It Really Takes to Build Clinical AI” where our General Manager Benjamin Carrington walks you through insights on our process, what we learned, and how compliance can be a growth differentiator, not a just a hurdle. If you’re an innovator in digital health or simply want to understand what it takes to build clinical-grade AI, this one's for you. 🐿️ Thanks again to our friends at Acorn Compliance for co-authoring this guide and for championing the importance of regulatory rigour in healthtech.

At Acorn Compliance, we work with innovators like Limbic who choose the harder, but ultimately more impactful, path when it comes to compliance and building regulation ready digital health products. We sat down with Benjamin Carrington, General Manager at Limbic, to show you what that journey looks like, and what you should consider if you want to follow it. "All in all, compliance has been a force multiplier not a blocker. In a market awash with mental health apps, now being powered out of the box by genAI, Class IIa certification instantly filters Limbic into the trustworthy bucket. Buyers can validate the product with objective, audited evidence, shortening sales cycles and easing clinician buy-in. In other words, compliance became our growth engine rather than a tax on speed." We are here to help you avoid the trap of treating healthtech compliance as a last-minute scramble. "How can AI reduce your admin load?" "What role could an AI chatbot play in Talking Therapies services?" These were some of the questions clinicians and Service leaders discussed at SBK Healthcare Events's Talking Therapies National Networking Forum. One thing is clear: conversations about clinical AI are no longer speculative. The future of mental healthcare is here, and clinicians must be at the heart of it. We're delighted to hear that many of you were enthusiastic about adopting digital innovations, but also asking the right questions around AI safety and clinical effectiveness. A special thank you to Naomi Holdsworth, Operations Service Manager at NHS Bradford District and Craven Talking Therapies for taking the time share how her innovative team are using clinical AI to expand clinical capacity, cut admin time, and improve outcomes. The real world impact speaks for itself: ⏳ 56,670 mins of clinical admin time released from identifying ineligible referrals at the point of self referral ✍ Patients who use Limbic Care are 70% more likely to attend >1 session (vs. 57% who don’t) 🩷 14.1% increase in reliable improvement from patients who use Limbic 🩷 11.4% increase in reliable recovery from patients who use Limbic 👉 What do you think: where could clinical AI have the biggest impact in your practice: reducing admin, improving access, or elevating the patient experience?

"There's tremendous value in using these models. They really do get to a point, when properly combined with the right safeguards and the right architecture, amplify the health system and help patients ... but it really needs a lot of thought on how you use it." Our VP of AI & Research, Max Rollwage, spoke to Kevin Pho, M.D., on his podcast about his recent article, "The promise and perils of AI in health care: Why we need better testing standards." 🎙️Curious about what sets clinical AI apart? Listen to this interview on why safety, privacy, and clinician guidance must be at the core of any AI in healthcare.

I appreciated the opportunity to speak with Kevin Pho, M.D., about the current gaps in the evaluation and testing practices to validate AI's fitness for clinical use. We're seeing impressive releases like HealthBench and MedPalm2, but they often rely on artificial scenarios and AI-driven evaluations rather than real patient interactions and human expert assessment. What we actually need is rigorous clinical testing: real-user interactions with genuine clinical presentations, qualified clinicians evaluating AI responses for safety and appropriateness, and real-world clinical studies measuring the impact on patient outcomes and well-being. Just as drug development demands comprehensive clinical trials, AI for healthcare requires the same evidence-based standards before deployment. https://lnkd.in/eafHvDKz
