Living Wage Foundation
Non-profit Organizations
We’re the movement at the heart of fairer, better work. Fair pay, secure hours & enough to live on in retirement.
About us
The Living Wage Foundation is the organisation at the heart of the Living Wage movement in the UK. The Living Wage Foundation does three things: Accreditation: We offer accreditation to employers that pay the living wage, or those committed to an agreed timetable of implementation, by awarding the ‘Living Wage Employer’ mark. Intelligence: We provide advice and support to employers implementing the Living Wage including best practice guides; case studies from leading employers; model procurement frameworks; access to specialist legal and HR advice. Influence: We provide a forum for leading employers to publicly back the Living Wage. We work with six Principal Partners, Trust for London, KPMG, Linklaters, Resolution Foundation, Save the Children and Queen Mary University of London, who bring financial and strategic support to the work.

I'm speaking at a Retail Trust conference this week, so this morning I spent some time chatting to the Living Wage Foundation, a brilliant group that tries to advocate for and represent the 6.1 million people in the UK who have insecure work. What I found fascinating was that lots of retail organisations haven't signed up as Living Wage Pledge employers but do nevertheless pay it to their workers. So why not sign up? Because the Living Wage Pledge asks your supply chain to pay the same. That means outsourced security guards or cleaners on a living wage. Most firms aren't willing to do that. These are the 'invisible jobs' stuck with low pay and low prospects that most of us don't think about. When I spoke at a Retail Trust event in the summer one veteran voice spoke up and said 'in store workers are fed up with their colleagues not being in the office five days a week'. Nice try, I can confirm that this is not remotely what in store workers care about, but here's a link in the comments to what they do care about.

Fantastic to have the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan ‘s ongoing support for the real Living Wage in London. The new London Living Wage is £14.80 an hour, which is worth over £5000 more a year to workers than those on the government’s minimum. Thousands of employers in the capital have chosen to pay a wage that reflects the cost of living, resulting in a vital pay rise for more than 150,000 Londoners. Join the Living Wage movement: www.livingwage.org.uk
Good news - more than 150,000 Londoners are getting a pay rise. The London Living Wage has increased nearly 7% to £14.80 an hour.

🗨️ "The benefits [of becoming a Living Wage Employer] have been great relationships between staff and management. We've had really high staff retention, people have really wanted to stay because they feel valued." Wise words from Katherine McAlpine of The Brunel Museum, speaking at the Museums Association conference about the benefits they've seen from becoming a #LivingWage employer. 📽️ Watch the full session on tackling low pay in the museum sector: https://lnkd.in/eAupd6w5

All care workers need to earn at least the real #LivingWage. Today, we published an open letter with Living Wage Foundation, signed by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, to urge the Government to guarantee that all adult social care workers are paid at least the real Living Wage now. As the Employment Rights Bill passes through the House of Lords, we have welcomed the plans to introduce Fair Pay Agreements that will give negotiated pay and conditions a legal framework. However, this process could take until 2028, and care workers cannot afford to wait that long. Read the full letter 👇 https://lnkd.in/eMjyFWfb

"At the end of the day, this is much more than just being an accredited employer. These standards are a promise to your people that you're in it for the long haul". 👏 Meet West Brom Building Society - the first building society to hold all 3 accreditations (Living Wage, Living Hours and Living Pension). We spoke to Susith Jayamanne, Reward & Data Analysis Specialist about their experience of accrediting, and what it means to them to be an employer who cares about their employees financial wellbeing, now and in the future.
