The latest study by the NIHR #RSET team investigates how to best monitor and measure the effectiveness of 'buddy' schemes for social care support in prisons across England and Wales. It also considers the current state of data collection and points out where there are gaps 🔍 Read the paper and watch our video overview on this topic 👉 https://lnkd.in/gHHzUWWB The research was carried out by a team from the Nuffield Trust, UCL, the University of Cambridge and EP:IC Consultants. #NHS performance targets mostly focus on hospitals, but the waiting list for community services has also been growing and receives little attention. 📈 We've analysed the community services that adults and children are waiting to access 👉 https://buff.ly/cvTzV5t

There are 1.2 million cases waiting to start treatment with NHS community services. But some services make up a larger proportion of the waiting list than others, and there has been substantial growth in some since 2022. 📈 Read our latest analysis for more detail 👉 https://lnkd.in/e7GXYguz

NEW ANALYSIS: Children are facing unacceptably long waits for NHS community services, with almost 1 in 4 children on the list waiting for over a year, compared to 1 in 100 adults. The waiting list for community services now stands at 1.2 million, with services struggling to keep up with demand just as the government intends to begin shifting more care out of hospitals and into communities. The analysis by Jessica Morris also details which community services have the longest waiting lists. Over half of children are waiting for paediatric services, which include autism and ADHD support. For adults, musculoskeletal services have the longest waiting list. Our Deputy Director of Policy Natasha Curry has shared her thoughts on what today's Skills for Care 'State of the Sector and Workforce' report can tell us about the condition of the social care sector. It's positive that vacancies have fallen again, but the sector faces huge risks owing to an overreliance on overseas staff and glaring issues with pay and working conditions. Nuffield Trust reposted this Lack of awareness, inconsistent access, an overwhelming process, and a lasting impact on everyone involved – all problems with NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) highlighted in this article from Healthwatch England based on the experiences of people who have tried to access CHC: https://lnkd.in/eQSQYbcZ More powerful reminders of the need for action on this important but often overlooked part of the health and care system. These findings are consistent with our own work – published at the end of September – which shone a light on the complexity of CHC with variation driven by multiple factors at an individual, organisational and system level: https://lnkd.in/e8WtmhiK 📣 We and others are calling for urgent improvements in the current process as well as for CHC to be considered within the remit of the Casey Commission as part of a broader conversation on long-term care reform.
