  • Ever watched a wind turbine come back to life? 👀 This one’s been part of its local community for over 20 years. Keep watching to find out how we gave it a new lease of life after it broke down in December 2023. 🎬 — This initiative is not part of Octopus Energy Generation's regulated financial services business.

  • Got land? Let’s turn it into renewable energy. ⚡️ At Octopus Energy Generation, we’re known for investing in and managing large-scale renewable energy projects. But we also work directly with landowners through Plots for Kilowatts – our initiative to unlock new sites for clean energy across the UK. Right now, we’re looking for land that could host wind, solar, or battery projects. • The UK’s green energy revolution just got a major boost – and pension providers are at the heart of it! 🐙 Smart Pension recently announced its £330 million investment into two of our flagship funds: Sky (Octopus Renewables Infrastructure SCSp) and OETF (Octopus Energy Transition SCSp). That capital is already being put to work. One of the first projects to be funded is a ground source heat pump network in South Wales, developed by our partners at Kensa, which will bring low-carbon heating to over 100 homes. 🏡 And that’s just the beginning. This investment will support many more projects across the country, helping to unlock the infrastructure needed for a cleaner, more affordable energy system. Pension savings represent a huge opportunity to help deliver that future, and we’re excited to see where this momentum leads. 👀 Want to read more? We’ve linked some coverage in the comments.

  • Fantastic news! ⚡️ Sierra Leone’s Parliament has just greenlit plans to turn Sherbro Island into an eco-friendly smart city, creating jobs, supporting communities, and attracting long-term investment. As our CEO Zoisa North-Bond told Forbes Africa: “With its abundant natural resources, Sierra Leone can become a global showcase for community-driven, economic growth powered by green electrons”. With the country targeting 85% renewable energy generation by 2030, we’re proud to be partnering with Idris Elba and The Akuna Group to build Sierra Leone’s first-ever wind farm. It will help bring clean, reliable energy to homes, schools, and businesses on Sherbro Island. 🗞️ We’ve linked the full article in the comments. • Clean energy entrepreneurs across Africa are solving big challenges with bold ideas. 💡 We were proud to support the first Africa Energy Entrepreneurship Award alongside the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Africa Council – spotlighting some of the most exciting early-stage businesses across the continent. The top prize went to Nigerian start-up Nimsy Agro Solar Concept, whose solar-powered irrigation pumps are helping over 5,000 smallholder farmers ditch diesel for sunshine. 🏆 Two runners-up included: PAM Africa, who use artificial intelligence to make mini-grids smarter, more efficient, and affordable for businesses and communities. KAMIM Technologies Ltd, whose solar-powered cooling systems reduce food waste and keep harvests fresh for underserved communities. Congratulations to all three winners, who will receive funding, mentoring, and on-the-ground support to scale their impact and help more people access clean, reliable energy. ⚡️

  • South Korea wants to get a third of its electricity from renewables by 2038, up from just 10% today. And we’re helping accelerate that shift with a new solar investment set to power tens of thousands of Korean homes! 🇰🇷 Through our Sky fund, we’re backing Skygreen Energy to build up to 20 new solar farms across South Korea over the next two years — generating 140 MW of clean energy, enough to power around 45,000 homes a year. 🔆 It’s our latest move in Asia, following our first investment in Japanese solar back in April 2023, and builds on our growing offshore wind pipeline in South Korea too. It’s all part of our global mission: investing in the people and projects driving the energy transition forward. ⚡️

  • We’ve just plugged into one of the world’s biggest offshore wind farms. 🔌 Vector, one of the funds we manage, now owns a 10% stake in East Anglia One, a 714 MW offshore giant powering around 700,000 UK homes a year. That’s 102 turbines, spinning 43 km off the Suffolk coast, and one more milestone in our mission to supercharge offshore wind. ⚡️ It’s our 7th offshore wind deal in Europe, building on existing projects across the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and France, and pushing us past US$2 billion invested in this tech. • Is the UK entering a new era of solar power? 🌤️ Solar is now the cheapest way to generate electricity in the UK according to the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. 50% more solar capacity is expected to be built this year compared to 2024 — a huge leap forward in the UK’s renewable energy transition. 💡 Our CEO, Zoisa North-Bond, spoke to The i Paper about the surge in solar, highlighting that the UK is doubling down on cheap, green, home-grown energy — and how Octopus Energy Generation is backing this shift with a strong pipeline of solar projects.
