  • As Osborne Clarke in the US reaches its 25-year milestone, Malcolm Pobjoy looks back at the pace of change – from the Dotcom era to the rise of AI – and why trusted, solutions-focused advice remains essential in times of transformation. #HappyAnniversaryOCUS #OsborneClarke #25in2025

Experienced business development leader with global expertise.

Reflecting on OC US’s first year in 2000 I am reminded of the quote “plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose". 2000 was in the midst of a period of transformational change, the introduction of the Euro, the Y2K migration and the dot com bubble starting to rupture. Today's issues and opportunities are being driven by the transformational impact of AI, a reset of world trade structures, an increase of conflict across the globe and a growing climate challenge. Through it all, the constant is this: to manage change, you need trusted partners and advisers who know your business and deliver solutions-focused advice. I have always tried to achieve that "trusted advisor status" when representing the companies over my career and I will continue to strive to do that as we look to the future at Osborne Clarke. #HappyAnniversaryOCUS #OsborneClarke #25in2025

As legal leaders face economic uncertainty and geopolitical tension, regulatory demands are increasing across jurisdictions. They are complex and fast evolving, even as efforts aim to streamline rules. At this year’s Economist Impact General Counsel Summit, our Breakfast Briefing titled “Regulatory headwinds: how are GCs steering business through uncertainty with confidence?” will explore how general counsel can manage regulatory risk while balancing ongoing compliance, resilience and growth. Partners Noline Matemera and Jonathan McDonald will share practical approaches to focusing compliance where it matters most, designing agile governance that can adapt to changing rules, and equipping teams to plan for and respond to the unexpected. Last year’s London GC Summit saw us discussing how sustainable supply chains drive international success across geopolitics, supply chain due diligence, horizon scanning, collaboration on sustainability and the human–machine balance in AI and this year’s session builds on those themes with a focus on prioritised compliance and agile governance. Read the look-back Insight here > https://lnkd.in/gEaXvSV9 Also attending from Osborne Clarke: Katie Vickery, Ashley Hurst and John Davidson-Kelly. If you are there, come say hello, and look out for a live look at some demos from Osborne Clarke Solutions. #EconGC #Compliance #Regulation #InHouseCounsel

  • As Osborne Clarke marks 25 years in the US, Javier Fernandez-Samaniego reflects on launching our Miami office in 2023 and how the city has become a vibrant gateway for cross-border collaboration and international dispute resolution. #HappyAnniversaryOCUS #OsborneClarke #25in2025

Miami & Madrid | IT & Dispute Resolution Spanish Lawyer, Arbitrator & Mediator | Cybersecurity & Privacy Advocate | Appointee of Kingdom of Spain as Conciliator at ICSID

When I joined Osborne Clarke to launch our #Miami office in 2023, it was always more than just a new address. We were creating a bridge.    Two years later, as we celebrate OC's 25th anniversary in the US, I'm proud of what we've built here in Magic City.    From my early days as one of Europe's first privacy lawyers to now leading cross-border dispute resolution from this vibrant hub, I have seen the complexity of global legal challenges across cybersecurity, construction & infrastructure, international arbitration matters and much more.    But the growing intricacies of cross-border disputes also bring great opportunities. Miami's energy is infectious. Whether it’s a European tech company expanding into LatAm, a US multinational with arbitration in Europe, or mediating complex international commercial disputes, every case benefits from Miami’s multicultural lens.    What makes this work even more rewarding is Miami's incredible legal and business ecosystem. As the new Chair of Club Español e Iberoamericano del Arbitraje FL Chapter, I'm constantly inspired by the collaborative spirit here. Our partnerships with organizations like the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce, eMerge Americas, The Florida Bar International Law Section, and Miami International Arbitration Society create rich networks for our clients. Having world-class institutions like JAMS and International Centre for Dispute Resolution® (ICDR)/AAA right here in Miami, along with the strong academic partnerships we've built with Florida International University and University of Miami, and Miami Dade College reinforces this city's position as a true international dispute resolution and legal education hub.    The past two years have taught me that global growth isn't just about legal expertise (though that's essential) – it's about understanding culture, building trust, and creating solutions that work across borders.    As we look toward the next chapter of OC's US story, I'm excited about Miami's role as our strategic gateway to the Americas and beyond.    ¡Vamos por más!

Today, we look at the final topic of the consultation: #9 Horizontal issues The European Commission looks at broader cross-cutting matters and seeks views on whether the EU should introduce further actions that aim to improve the protection of consumers and strengthen enforcement as well as the functioning of the single market in the digital environment. It invites views on a list of suggested actions, including: Mandatory use of age verification and age estimation tools for digital product containing certain commercial practices accessible to minors. "Fairness by design" – traders incorporating consumer protection at all stages of product or service development. Reversing the burden of proof where consumers and interested parties or authorities face disproportionate difficulty in proving trader wrongdoing. As Osborne Clarke US turns 25, I’ve been reflecting on my overseas move – the leap that pushed me out of my comfort zone, broadened my perspective, and reshaped how I think and work. Experiencing a new culture and business landscape has been both eye-opening and inspiring. Tech & Games law | Connecting US & Europe | International expansion

🌊 This month we’re celebrating OC US’s 25th birthday and it's got me thinking about the many highlights and hurdles our team have faced over the years while riding the global wave of digitalization.    🫧 When we opened our first California office in Palo Alto in 2000 to help bridge the Atlantic for Dotcoms looking to expand to Europe, the timing was less than ideal, and we started our adventure facing a burst bubble. 🤖 But the Silicon Valley has recovered; technology has continued evolving to Web 2.0, smartphones and SaaS; and San Francisco and the Silicon Valley are now the AI capital of the world. 💻 A changing and increasingly digital world has also brought about new digital regulation, and nobody produces more of it than Europe. Starting with the General Data Protection Regulation, and extending across a host of cybersecurity, consumer, AI and digital antitrust regulation, our U.S. based teams have accumulated a wealth of experience in managing multijurisdictional compliance projects with an eye on pragmatic solutions.  #HappyAnniversaryOCUS #OsborneClarke #25in2025

  • 📢 Osborne Clarke has advised AI speech infrastructure startup SLNG on its US$3.9 million pre-seed funding round. Based in Barcelona, SLNG was founded this year by Ismael Ordaz and Luke Miller (who was previously at npm and Vercel). SLNG aims to challenge the US-centric technology ecosystem and build the first truly global platform for voice AI. While traditional platforms prioritise languages such as English, Spanish and French and often lock developers into inflexible single provider ecosystems, SLNG’s open ecosystem approach lets developers combine open-source and proprietary models without vendor lock-in, while developer-first design delivers SDKs and APIs built for rapid integration. The round, led by leading European investment fund, Earlybird VC, will accelerate SLNG’s plan to provide developers, startups, and enterprises with a unified platform that integrates multiple speech models, supports true global deployment with regional compliance, and eliminates the barriers that have kept voice technology concentrated in a handful of languages and markets. The Osborne Clarke team was led by Corporate partner Mathias Loertscher and Corporate senior associate Uday Mehra, with the support of Corporate associate Andrew Blyth, Spanish Tax partner and associate Enric Girona Frisach and Silvia Miralles Estrada and Spanish Employment partner and counsel Eva Otaegui Ochoa and Anna Iborra Olba. “We were delighted to support SLNG in its successful pre-seed fundraising, which will accelerate its mission to ‘unmute the world’ by creating a genuinely global voice ecosystem. SLNG’s audacious, developer-first approach positions it as an innovative first mover in this exciting space.” – Mathias Loertscher Osborne Clarke's corporate team are considered a go-to practice for many in the tech, media and comms sector, working with leading global businesses, fast-growth start-ups and market challengers. The team advises on all stages of company development across all corporate issues, from equity and debt fundraisings to M&A, IPOs and JVs.
