📢 New research from Oxford University Press reveals over half of UK pupils struggle to spot AI misinformation. Key findings from our latest report, Teaching the AI-Native Generation, released today: 💡 UK teenagers want support from teachers to identify trustworthy AI content 💡 60% of pupils worry AI tools encourage copying rather than original work 💡 Young people believe AI helps skills development but outline concerns. Amie Lawless, Secondary, Assessment and Innovation Product Director at OUP, says: "It’s encouraging to see from the research how aware young people are of the challenges surrounding AI and how eagerly they want to collaborate with their teachers to address the issues. Most importantly however, the findings offer a valuable reminder of bringing together trusted content and sound learning design principles with responsible AI tools which put the learner’s needs at the core." Reading is a great way to relax, boost your mood and escape the pressures of daily life. Here at Oxford University Press we'll be taking 10 minutes to read at 10am on Friday 10 October to mark World Mental Health Day and support National Literacy Trust's #Take10toRead campaign. Let us know if you're joining in too! 📖
Life is busy, and it isn’t always easy to find time for yourself. Reading is a great way to calm your mind, boost your mood and escape elsewhere – and it doesn’t always have to be a book. It could be a post-match report, a magazine interview with your favourite celebrity, or a graphic novel. Our #Take10toRead campaign promotes the mental health benefits of reading. Each year on World Mental Health Day (10 October), we invite organisations, schools and families to drop everything and read at 10am. Why not try it with your colleagues to see where it takes you? We know that children are more likely to enjoy reading if they see adults they care about reading too. This matters, because children who regularly read for pleasure do better at school and have improved wellbeing. Businesses can join in signing our Take 10 pledge, reading on the morning commute, organising a book swap in the office, or even hosting a fundraiser to support our mission. Sign up today to pledge your support and receive free Take 10 guidance and resources: https://lnkd.in/enPmd5tN

📢 New research published today: 'The children and young people’s writing in school in 2025' report from National Literacy Trust, supported by Oxford University Press. ⬇️
Our latest research, published today and supported by OUP Education, reveals how anxiety is shaping children and young people’s experiences of writing in school. While 2 in 5 pupils say they enjoy writing, many are held back by a fear of “getting it wrong” which often leads to disengagement and avoidance. Our survey of nearly 14,700 children and young people aged 8 to 18 also highlights that writing enjoyment changes as pupils grow older: ⬆️ It peaks in primary school, with half (49.5%) of 8 to 11-year-olds enjoying writing. ⬇️ But this drops steadily in secondary years, reaching the lowest point at ages 14 to 16 (29.4%). 🔄 Encouragingly, enjoyment begins to rise again among 16 to 18-year-olds, with 2 in 5 reporting they like writing (38.4%). These findings demonstrate the need for a reimagining of school-based writing that places emotional engagement and personal relevance at its core. We need to create assessment-free opportunities for young people to write creatively, choose their own topics, and build a personal connection with writing. When pupils feel safe to experiment and express themselves, they are more likely to enjoy writing and develop the skills and confidence they need for the future.
