In the run-up to RenewableUK and Scottish Renewables' Floating Offshore Wind 2025 Conference, we’re taking a look at the near-term buildout of floating offshore wind worldwide. Currently, 277MW of floating wind capacity is fully commissioned and exporting power, with an additional 93MW across four projects undergoing or nearing offshore construction in France, Japan, and China. A further 241MW have reached financial investment decision (FID) and are expected online in 2026-2028. The charts below show the country and foundation type of all floating wind capacity that is fully operational, under construction, or has reached FID. While progress has been slower than initially expected, with the right frameworks and investment in place, the pace is set to accelerate in the 2030s, bringing forward the implementation of around 8GW of projects that have already secured full environmental approval, along with another 20GW that have submitted full planning applications. What is the public’s opinion on renewables? 🌍 In our latest independent polling, RenewableNI took a deep dive into the views of the public in every part of Northern Ireland.
