The Budget run-in has focused on taxes, but housing could play an equally decisive role. Ambitious planning reform could deliver the economic growth that Britain so desperately needs, the current mess of property taxation is ripe for reform, and better support for families in rented accommodation could raise living standards and reduce child poverty. Successive governments have failed to grapple with Britain’s housing challenges, but can the Chancellor afford *not* to grasp it? Join us next Thursday to learn how housing policy should feature in this month's Budget. Speakers will include Emily Williams, Paul Cheshire, Jamie Carswell, Lindsay Judge and Ruth Curtice. As things stand, this Government is on track to preside over the sharpest increase in child poverty by any Labour Government in the last 60 years. Fully repealing the two-child limit on benefits is by far the best way to turn that tide. Half measures have been mooted – from moving to a three-child limit to exempting working families – but our latest modelling reveals that they would all still lead to an increase in child poverty by the end of the decade.
