Announcing topics and provisional dates for the 2027 Faraday Discussions, the renowned scientific conference/journal series. A reminder of the 2026 programme topics and dates is also included below - now’s the perfect time to start planning your involvement. 👇
I previously posted that as an organiser of scientific conferences I am thinking about conferences a few years into the future, not just those taking place next week/month...in which case… I'm pleased to be able to share that the 2027 programme of Faraday Discussions is nearing completion! There a strong line up of topics planned, covering all areas of chemistry and interfaces with other disciplines. Sneak peek at titles for 2027 below. These are yet to be formally announced. Keep an eye on the Faraday webpage (https://lnkd.in/eSvS6en4) for meeting announcements and more details when available. 2027: 🔹 7–9 April – Corrosion fundamentals to extremes 🔹14–16 April – Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering 🔹21–23 June – Mechanism in molecular catalysis 🔹Summer (date tbc) – The indoor-outdoor continuum of aerosols 🔹8–10 September – Digital chemistry discovery 🔹15–17 September – Challenges and solutions for photothermal materials and applications 🔹15–17 November – Designing catalysts for a sustainable future The 2026 Faraday Discussions are already announced and programmes/details available from the webpage. 2026: 🔹8–10 April – Vibrations at Interfaces 🔹13–15 April – Molecular and ion flows through angstrom-scale channels 🔹20–22 April – Bridging the gap from surface science to heterogeneous catalysis 🔹1–3 July – Emerging materials for optoelectronics applications 🔹13–15 July – Solid electrolyte interphases in next-generation batteries 🔹14–16 September – Molecular excited states theory and experiment 🔹14–16 September – Sustainable chemistry of e-fuels and e-chemicals 🔹2–4 November – Bridging electrochemical devices across Earth and space applications What is a Faraday Discussion? Organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, Faraday Discussions are unique scientific meetings where leading researchers present and debate cutting-edge ideas in chemistry and related fields. Primary research papers written by the speakers are distributed to all participants before the meeting ensuring that most of the meeting is devoted to discussion. A citable record of the discussion is published in the Faraday Discussions journal, alongside the research papers. https://lnkd.in/e7SuWxpw Why attend? Faraday Discussions offer an unparalleled opportunity to engage in deep discussion, network with experts, and shape the future of science. You’ll gain insights from world-leading researchers, contribute to conversations that influence the direction of your field. Questions, comments and remarks become a valuable part of the published scientific conversation, and every delegate can make a major contribution. ✅ Save the dates and join in! #RSCEvents #RSCPhys #FaradayDiscussion #Chemistry #ScientificResearch #Networking #Innovation #FutureOfScience #Conferences

🧪 Big changes are coming to science education in England – and we’re here for it. We think the government's curriculum and assessment review is a bold step toward a more inclusive, practical, and future-focused science education system. 🔍 Here’s what stands out: ▪️Science with purpose: A shift toward teaching through big questions like “How do we do chemistry?” will make learning more coherent and meaningful. ▪️Teachers as changemakers: Empowering educators to inspire, not just instruct. ▪️Sustainability at the core: Climate change and green skills will be woven throughout the curriculum. ▪️Hands-on science: Practical skills are rightly prioritised from primary through secondary. ▪️Equitable pathways still need work: Access to separate science GCSEs remains inconsistent - we’re pushing for real opportunity for every student. ▪️Digital literacy: Importantly is acknowledged, but stops short of fully embedding digital skills across the wider curriculum. We’ll keep working with government and educators to make sure these reforms are evidence-based and achievable: because every student deserves to be inspired by science. 🔗 Read our education policy expert Laura Daly's response in more detail: https://lnkd.in/eFrJrYKd #ScienceEducation #CurriculumReform #ChemistryMatters #STEM #RoyalSocietyOfChemistry #EducationPolicy
The Curriculum and Assessment review for England has dropped. See the response I wrote on behalf of the Royal Society of Chemistry below....
