The emissions graphic below shows how operational reality can be monitored from orbit. Each data point traces a precise change in the Dunkirk steelworks’ activity, and the atmosphere’s corresponding response. 👉 February 2023: all furnaces active - emissions above 320,000 t CO₂. 👉 June 2023: BF1 offline, BF4 paused - emissions halved. 👉 September 2024: BF4 resumed operations, with emissions modelled assuming the Dunkirk plant maintained its 2023 HotSat-observed capacity and configuration. SatVu’s 3.5 m thermal data captured each shutdown and restart in near-real time. Floodlight’s CO₂ analysis, derived from OCO-2 overpasses, confirmed the atmospheric consequence. Together, they form a verified, time-stamped record linking industrial heat to carbon output. This is more than a case study, it’s a demonstration of persistent, independent monitoring capability: the ability to observe industrial performance, validate reported changes, and quantify their environmental footprint directly from space👇 https://lnkd.in/e3vRNjH5 #TheWorldsThermometer
About us
SatVu captures the highest resolution thermal data from space for a safer and more sustainable Earth. The images and short video captured by our satellites show heat variations across the surface of the Earth at a resolution of up to 3.5 m, both during the day and at night. Thermal data at this unparalleled resolution has wide applications, from economic monitoring and national security to climate resilience including urban heat monitoring. The company’s first satellite HotSat-1 launched in June 2023. Two more satellites (HotSat-2 and HotSat-3) will be launched in 2025. We've delivered a step change in EO sensor and processing technology, and our constellation will achieve global coverage with 10-20 revisits per day. Features: Monitor activity at night: Unlike high-resolution optical, SatVu’s data can see at night. It can also see through smoke. High resolution thermal imagery represents a vital night-time optical substitute. A globally scalable solution: Unlike thermal data captured from aeroplanes or drones, SatVu can capture data from any point on the earth’s surface, including inaccessible or restricted areas, and it can do this in a uniform way. Video capability: SatVu is the only company capable of providing thermal data in the form of both still image and video up to 60 seconds long - allowing you to track movement across the built and natural environment. Our values: Challenge constructively: We leverage the diversity of the team, its thinking and the amazing skillsets of our people as we navigate new territory. Be open: We ensure everyone has the most up to date information to build trust and positive relationships that will help us overcome the challenges we face. Focus fast: We always find a way because accepting and responding to dramatic change effectively is key to our success. Astonish the world: We believe we can show the world what we do in ways that inspire change.

A major milestone for HotSat-2 🌍 HotSat-2 has successfully completed its vibration test - a key stage proving the spacecraft is ready to withstand the intense forces of launch and operate with precision once in orbit. As the next satellite in SatVu’s high-resolution thermal imaging constellation, HotSat-2 will expand our capacity to deliver near real-time insights on energy use, industrial activity, and environmental change, providing decision-makers with independent, space-based intelligence on what’s really happening on the ground. The vibration test replicates the physical stresses of launch, verifying that every component remains secure and mission-ready. Each successful test takes us a step closer to enhancing the world’s access to trusted thermal intelligence for applications spanning defence, infrastructure, and sustainability. #TheWorldsThermometer

During our recent Infrared Familiarisation programme at the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) in The Hague, we explored how thermal imaging enhances NATO’s space-based surveillance through the Alliance Persistent Surveillance from Space (APSS) initiative. Analysts gained insight into how high-resolution thermal data can support a wide range of defence and security applications, including👇 - Strategic site monitoring and critical infrastructure protection - Detection of activity in ships, aircraft, and vehicles through thermal signatures - Border security and counter-narcotics operations - Identification of underground or concealed infrastructure - Monitoring of power stations, fuel depots, and other energy facilities By revealing the activity layer - what assets are doing, not just where they are - thermal intelligence strengthens situational awareness and accelerates decision-making across the Alliance. Thermal intelligence isn’t just about detecting physical change, it’s about detecting activity. Through NATO’s Alliance Persistent Surveillance from Space (APSS) initiative, we’re enhancing existing optical and SAR capabilities with a new thermal “activity layer”, helping to build a richer, more comprehensive intelligence picture. At the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) headquarters in The Hague, our Infrared Familiarisation programme demonstrated how high-resolution thermal data can reveal operational status across defence applications - from infrastructure monitoring and vehicle detection to energy facility surveillance. 👉🏼 More about the collaboration: https://lnkd.in/exbGG5eS #TheWorldsThermometer #NATO #ThermalIntelligence #ISR

SatVu’s thermal intelligence is powering NATO’s next generation of space-based surveillance. Today we announce that SatVu has joined NATO’s Alliance Persistent Surveillance from Space (APSS) initiative, delivering an Infrared Familiarisation programme to personnel at the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency). By enhancing NATO’s space-based intelligence and surveillance capabilities, this collaboration supports faster, richer, and more actionable intelligence, empowering decision-makers across the Alliance. Our thermal imaging satellites provide a vital “activity layer” - revealing what assets are doing, not just where they are. Operating 24/7 at 3.5m resolution, they detect heat variations invisible to optical or SAR imaging, delivering insight into movement, activity, and operational status across land, sea, and air. 👉 More from Satellite Evolution Group https://lnkd.in/e5RNtPZg 📸 Image of an aircraft on the runway at Quzhou Airport, showing clear thermal emission from the aircraft's jet. #TheWorldsThermometer #NATO #ThermalIntelligence #ISR

As World Space Week 2025 explores #LivingInSpace, SatVu shows how life in orbit delivers intelligence that strengthens life on Earth. The UK Space Agency ’s latest evaluation of the Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) highlights SatVu’s leadership in advancing the UK’s thermal intelligence capability from space. As defined by the European Space Agency - ESA’s Copernicus/CCM framework, SatVu’s data falls within the “very high-resolution” bracket - delivering thermal insights with unmatched precision. Our satellites reveal more than imagery. They expose patterns of energy use, industrial activity, and operational behaviour in near real time - insights that conventional sensors cannot provide. This capability empowers governments to: ▪️Target energy efficiency investments with evidence-based accuracy ▪️ Strengthen national security through independent activity verification ▪️ Enhance economic and environmental resilience through data-driven action. By fusing climate and ESG insight with defence-grade intelligence, SatVu delivers a genuine dual-use advantage - from mapping heat loss across cities to monitoring critical infrastructure worldwide. We provide actionable intelligence derived from the world’s highest-resolution thermal data from space. 📄 Explore the full UK Space Agency CEOI report here: https://lnkd.in/eJDRQq4H #WorldSpaceWeek #LivingInSpace #EarthObservation #ClimateAction
