About us
Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In more than 100 countries including the UK, we help children stay safe, healthy and keep learning. We lead the way on tackling big problems like pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for. We find new ways to reach children who need us most, no matter where they’re growing up. For a century, we’ve stood up for children and made sure their voices are heard. We wrote the treaty that sets out the rights of every child, and we’ve been upholding them every day since. We know we can’t do this alone. Together with children, supporters and partners, we work to help every child become who they want to be.

Thirty five children were reported to be among those killed overnight by renewed airstrikes from Israeli forces in Gaza. 💔 This cannot become the new normal under a ceasefire. A lasting ceasefire must mean safety, relief, and recovery for children not continued suffering. It must be fully respected and upheld. We're pleading: stop this now. Protect the ceasefire, protect children, and give Gaza’s families a step towards the genuine peace they have been waiting for. While we continue to push for a definitive ceasefire, improved humanitarian access, and better protections for children, we're doing everything we can to provide essential support to families in need.

It's not just us that wants you to scrap the two-child limit to benefits Rachel Reeves, over 40 economists, academics, and policy experts back us too. The two-child limit generates savings of around £3.6 billion per year, but it's the largest driver of rising child poverty in the UK. The cost of child poverty to the UK economy has been estimated at £39 billion per year – more than ten times the savings generated by this policy. The evidence is clear: removing this cruel policy at the Autumn Budget in full doesn't only make moral sense, it makes economic sense. So far this month, at least 17 children in El Fasher have been killed and a further 22 injured. Their lives mattered. Each life was a universe. 💔 The reported deaths took place in a series of attacks on a displacement centre on 11 October, when nine girls and eight boys, including a newborn just seven days old, were killed, according to UNICEF. Most of the victims were burned alive inside metal caravans used as makeshift homes, while others remained trapped beneath collapsed structures as fires raged through the site, according to local reports. The horrors children in Sudan are facing must not be normalised. Children must be protected and international humanitarian law must be upheld. This is not up for debate: it is an indisputable fact and a legal duty owed to every child. Keep eyes on Sudan.

Good to spend time in NY (13/10) with UNICEF, and the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations, Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations, New York and the UK Permanent Mission to the UN. Our conversations focused on: The realities for children in Gaza, and the role of the international community in supporting a path forward. The 'Lifeline Rafah' initiative — advocating for sustained and secure humanitarian access across the Egypt-Gaza border. The need for credible, inclusive UN reform — not just institutional changes, but a recommitment to multilateralism that works for tomorrow’s challenges and truly reflects the needs and voices of those most affected. And critically, the urgent need to accelerate global attention on children affected by armed conflict. Children are bearing the brunt of today’s crises — politically, physically, and emotionally. We must ensure they are not overlooked in peacebuilding, humanitarian, and multilateral processes. Grateful for the time, insights, and collaboration from all involved. More than ever, we need principled, coordinated action. https://lnkd.in/e9cfmMw5

Yesterday, the FCDO announced new commitments to strengthen their approach to tackling malnutrition. This includes integrating nutrition across UK aid programmes, championing the Global Compact for Nutrition Integration and developing a results target. We welcome this, but without basic levels of funding, health centres will still close, children will go hungry and lifesaving malnutrition treatment will fail to reach millions of children. We are deeply concerned that programmes tackling malnutrition will face severe cuts, putting vulnerable children even more at risk of death and life-long impacts on their health and development. To make meaningful progress, these commitments need clear targets backed by proper funding. We're calling on Minister Jenny Chapman to urgently protect nutrition funding and to announce specific targets for integrating nutrition across FCDO’s work.
