But why are these very people—who are actively developing AI—concerned about it? 💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗮𝗽: 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘀—𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 The gap between the pace of 𝗔𝗜 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 and our 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 of it (also called the 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱) is widening. This growing divide is known as The Wisdom Gap. As a result, humanity is finding itself stuck between rapid technological progress and the struggle to comprehend its impact. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: ❓ Should we allow machines to flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth? ❓ Should we automate away not just routine jobs, but meaningful and fulfilling ones? ❓ Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, and replace us? ❓ Should we risk losing control of our own civilization? 🔴 Should such decisions be left in the hands of a few 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀? This letter does NOT say, "𝗪𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗔𝗜." 🌟 We’re thrilled to announce that 𝗦𝗢𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗕 has officially become a 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 of Social Enterprise Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 💙 Our journey began back in 2009 as 𝗦𝗢𝗚𝗟𝗔 (𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆) with a mission to 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱? 🌍 Human-Centered Design (HCD) can bridge the gap ⭐️ Traditional design methods often fail to create lasting impact because: ⛔️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀: Solutions designed without consulting the community often fail to address the root causes, leading to low adoption rates. ⛔️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Short-term fixes tend to crumble under long-term challenges like climate change or systemic inequality. ⛔️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: Solutions developed without interdisciplinary collaboration miss the interconnectedness of societal, economic, and environmental systems. 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 (#HCD) centers on #empathy, #collaboration, and iterative refinement. By evolving into #HumanityCenteredDesign (HCD+), it broadens the focus to include the well-being of all living systems, acknowledging the intricate links between human actions and planetary health.
