Business Consulting and Services

Enabling organisations to achieve better outcomes and a more humane world of work.

About us

We are a global network of deeply experienced practitioners – experts and thought leaders in the field of business agility with shared values and beliefs. We observe that improving ways of working implies cultural change (i.e., values and beliefs) and that side-by-side coaching is as key to success as consulting on organisational and process change. We are coaches and we are consultants. Applying the principle of continuous learning from across industries we describe patterns and anti-patterns for business agility and enable sharing of these through our book, blog and free to attend community events – alongside premium coaching, consulting and training services. As a business we pursue a cross-sector, cross-border, multi-generational impact. We drink our own champagne and measure progress based on case studies of improved BVSSH outcomes that have been created and shared. We are committed to social and environmental improvement and operate a tree planting programme to offset our carbon footprint by a factor of x10. We actively support social improvement through our work with Treesisters and through direct outreach with charities to help improve their ways of working.

  • During the industrial revolution in the United Kingdom, cotton mills grew fast - not just in buildings, but in systems, people & ambition. What can modern leaders learn from that? Lessons to carry forward: * Scaling systems is about people as much as infrastructure. * Legacy designs can stunt innovation unless we re-think them. Let’s build systems that grow with people, not at their expense. Read Kate Mulligan's post here: https://lnkd.in/eThdxDPy

  • When rumours of keyboard tracking started to circulate, we circled the wagons and took time to articulate more clearly than we had before the value of the efficiency metrics that have become recognised as thought-leading in the past decade. Several of these were already in place in this organisation, yet their value was under-appreciated and there was an opportunity to communicate them more widely and go further. The following models offer far more powerful ways to understand efficiency than 'keyboard activity tracking': * BVSSH - overarching measures of What value is delivered and How delivery is improving for any organisational scope. * SPACE - measures of developer productivity and well-being, applicable primarily to software engineering teams. * DevEx - measures a software developer's daily experience and identifies factors holding back productivity improvement. * DORA - measures of software delivery performance and stability, especially in relation to DevOps. Read Myles Ogilvie's new blog post to find out the differences and similarities between BVSSH, SPACE, DevEx and DORA and find out what is best suited for your context: https://lnkd.in/e-ccHDec #BVSSH #SPACE #DevEx #DORA

  • It's Halloween, what frightens you the most? We're wired for fear of the unknown - if we hear a noise in the bushes, we'd rather burn 100 calories running away than lose 100,000 calories being eaten by a tiger. It's loss aversion. This fear of uncertainty can lead to unhelpful, overcompensating behaviours - such as a desire for control, planning, predictability. However, in an unpredictable world an overemphasis on 'certainty' can suffocate your organisation's creativity, experimentation and learning. If there is one thing that businesses need to survive and thrive in the Age of Digital - it is the ability to learn fast, pivot quickly and amplify successes. Plan for uncertainty! As you stand in your hall tonight, waiting with trepidation for the doorbell to ring ("Trick or Treat?") - have a think about whether your business is doing enough to experiment and adapt quickly... or are you stuck in annual planning with fixed milestones. Is there the cultural bravery to be curious and learn fast? Its the only way to avoid the tricks and amplify the treats! Happy Halloween! #BVSSH #FearlessOrganisation

  • Under race conditions (toboggan, race cars...), what is a key determinant of how fast you can go? Size of the engine...low friction...? It's the brakes. To go fast, you have to have strong brakes. As the pace of change increases and the granularity of changes decreases, traditional governance, risk and compliance controls are no longer enough. Either they get bypassed or speed remains throttled back, allowing others to overtake you. Are you stuck in the trap of “Speed without Control” or “Control without Speed”? In this talk, Myles Ogilvie and Tony Caink discuss emerging models for accelerating governance, risk and compliance. This is for leaders, risk practitioners, and product teams looking to enable faster AND safer change.
