👏 An incredible moment to see The High Seas Treaty winning The Earthshot Prize! Our partner, the High Seas Alliance have been recognised for their critical contribution to the High Seas Treaty, the first-ever global legal framework for protecting biodiversity on the High Seas, which took nearly two decades of advocacy, including five years of negotiations. The High Seas Alliance is a coalition of more than 70 civil society groups who worked tirelessly alongside governments, communities, and scientists to mobilise international support to great success – the treaty has now been ratified and will come into force in January 2026. The next stage of this vital work to protect our oceans is about implementation. As Rebecca Hubbard, Director of the High Seas Alliance, says, "This is not just a moment of celebration however – it’s a powerful catalyst for action to secure a thriving ocean for generations to come.” Synchronicity Earth is proud to have supported the High Seas Alliance in their work towards this goal for over a decade. https://lnkd.in/dYb-9RMc

Nobody wants to talk about paperwork. But ways to reduce paperwork? It's a win-win. Our latest issue of Reimagining Philanthropy is a quick checklist of ways trust-based philanthropy can reduce the administrative burden for grant recipients, without funders missing out on key information. Have you got other ideas or examples of how funders can make their partners' lives easier? Let us know in the comments!

“We sail to carry the solutions from our territories to COP30.” More than 50 Indigenous leaders and representatives from over 60 organisations have joined the Yaka Mama (meaning ‘mother water’ in Kichwa) Amazon flotilla on a historic 3,000 km river journey. The Amazon Flotilla connects and is led by Indigenous Peoples, organisations, movements, and coalitions of territorial defenders, including our partners at Quipa, and Alexis and Jessica Grefa. Their route has been strategically planned, with stops to bring awareness to the scars that oil extraction has left on the Amazon river, but also workshops and ceremonies to share stories of strength and resistance from the communities they meet on the way. Sailing from the Andes to the Amazon – through Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia – the crew will finally arrive in Belem, Brazil, where COP30 takes place. The aim is to carry voices from their territories to the centre of climate decisions, and to demand justice. Add your name/organisation to their global call and explore the Amazon Flotilla website to follow about their journey: https://lnkd.in/eM6Z6mcZ Photos: Collaborative coverage from the river. #AmazonFlotilla #YakuMama #AndesToTheAmazon #RoadToBelem #ClimateJustice #COP30

“In reality, local organizations have the expertise and experience but lack the resources to grow precisely because they are underfunded. The real issue is not a lack of capacity but rather a lack of direct, flexible, and long-term funding. Instead of perpetuating the 'capacity myth,' we have the opportunity to recognize that capacity is built through investment, not an inherent limitation.” For decades, conservation has operated on a flawed assumption — that local and Indigenous organizations need to “prove” capacity before they can be trusted with meaningful funding. But what if we flipped that logic? Across Africa, community-rooted organizations are already leading extraordinary conservation efforts, including our partners. What they need is not more oversight, but more trust — an investment that strengthens their ability to deliver long-term impact for people, nature, and climate. 🌍 This idea is at the heart of our article in IUCN Policy Matters Journal, which explores how reimagining conservation finance can help shift power to the people who’ve always protected the world’s most vital ecosystems. Read it below. Resson Kantai Duff Jessie Davie Shreya Chakrabarti

Philanthropy is evolving – and intermediaries are at the heart of that change. From FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund’s flexible grantmaking, to Mama Cash’s bold support for grassroots activists – good intermediaries build bridges to the communities driving impact through trust and mutual accountability. We explore what makes an effective intermediary in this week’s issue of Reimagining Philanthropy. If you have further thoughts about what makes a good intermediary, or examples of good intermediaries you think deserve a shoutout, let us know in the comments! #Philanthropy

Has it been a week since the IUCN World Conservation Congress already? As our travelling conservationists settle back into their day-to-day, lots of us participating (both in person and online) are reflecting on shared wisdom, following up on new connections, and pursuing new areas of interest after the exciting chaos that made up our crammed Congress schedules. Our new Co-Executive Director (Programmes and Engagement), Helen Tugendhat, has taken time to think about the highlights of the Congress as her first time meeting lots of our partners and representing a funder organisation. https://lnkd.in/e6gPt8pW #IUCN #IUCNCongress
