The Windrush generation has waited too long for justice. That changes today. We’re overhauling the Windrush Compensation Scheme - compensating victims for lost pensions, speeding up payments, prioritising elderly and vulnerable claimants and expanding what victims can claim.

Six months ago, I started as Permanent Secretary at the UK Home Office. An incredibly busy time for the team: from the Immigration White Paper to the UK-France returns agreement, record cocaine seizure at the border, hosting the Five Country Ministerial, launching the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme and the summer Safer Streets initiative. As well as the UK's biggest ever knife surrender scheme, increased illegal working raids and arrests (by 50% yr on yr), and continued progress in removing people with no right to be in the UK. And, of course, welcoming our new Secretary of State, Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood MP, and her Ministerial team. All alongside our ongoing work delivering crucial public services and responding to national security incidents, such as the horrific terrorist attack in Manchester earlier this month. Thank you to the dedicated team of civil servants in this Great Department of State, delivering some of the Government’s highest priorities - on border security, national security and public safety. Great to mark the milestone with colleagues at our Liverpool Campus.
