We are delighted to share highlights from the Botswana National Ecosystem Assessment Trialogue, held from 6-10 October 2025. 💡 The engagement brought together key stakeholders from the government, academia, civil society, traditional knowledge holders, youth representatives, people with disabilities, and the private sector. Harnessing innovative facilitation techniques, the Trialogue created a space for these stakeholders to join forces in validating the key messages and findings from the draft of the ecosystem assessment technical report. The Trialogue also enabled discussions among the stakeholder groups to translate the findings into actionable policy recommendations to support sustainable ecosystem management and inform decision-making in Botswana. The national Trialogue has added more value to the national ecosystem assessment process as all stakeholders are involved, valued and taken on board from the initial scoping stage to the expert evaluation stage. The event was organized by the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) in partnership with the Department of Environmental Protection in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Technical support was provided by UNDP, UNEP-WCMC, UNESCO, as part of the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-Net). 🚨 NEW FEATURE: ELSA Integrated Spatial Planning Tool Now Available on #UNBiodiversityLab! The ELSA (Essential Life Support Area) Integrated Spatial Planning Tool is being launched at #SBSTTA27 on Wednesday 22 October 2025, where delegates and experts are working to accelerate the #KMGBF implementation. The ELSA Tool on #UNBiodiversityLab empowers countries to use cutting-edge science and cloud computing to identify priority areas. Protection, restoration, sustainable management and urban greening can then maximize impacts for biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development. The tool is user friendly, requires no specialized GIS or spatial planning expertise, and offers a transparent and participatory approach to guide national action. Discover how integrated spatial planning can contribute to achieving Targets 1-3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF). Join Cuba, Ecuador, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, the SANBI sub-regional Technical Support Centre, and #UNBiodiversityLab at #SBSTTA27 on Wednesday 22 October 2025 to officially launch the ELSA Integrated Spatial Planning Tool. We will learn about its national relevance for implementing and reporting on Target 1 of the KMGBF, see how countries are catalysing action around the KMGBF, and engage in discussion and peer-to-peer exchange. If you are at #SBTTA27, you can learn more about the session here: 👉http://bit.ly/3J6kjvi Learn more about accessing the tool on the ELSA Integrated Spatial Planning landing page on #UNBiodiversityLab: https://lnkd.in/erxHjW9q #UNBiodiversityLab #ELSA #SpatialPlanning #Conservation #Biodiversity #NatureData #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #SDG15 #LifeOnLand #GBF #KMGBF #GlobalBiodiversityFramework

Democratising data for nature-positive action and collective management of global commons. 🌎💪🌳 At the #IUCNCongress, leading voices from the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), IUCN, UN Environment Programme, UN Biodiversity and global partners put a spotlight on data access to enable monitoring of biodiversity, including in relation to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Emphasising how open-access information can empower governments to make informed and science-based decisions for biodiversity and people, Elizabeth Mrema, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme, also highlighted the importance of shared global data and knowledge platforms such as the Global Ecosystems Atlas, the World Environment Situation Room and the UN Biodiversity Lab. At the event 'Global Ecosystems Atlas: The Innovation Layer for Nature Action using IUCN's Typology,' Ms Mrema quoted, “We [UNEP] have helped shape the Global Ecosystems Atlas's architecture, ensuring open standards, interoperability, and transparency. This builds on our broader role as the architect and enabler of global commons data, through platforms such as the World Environment Situation Room and the UN Biodiversity Lab. These already provide hundreds of datasets to governments worldwide, supporting their planning, reporting, and monitoring efforts.” UN Biodiversity Lab is a free, open-source platform and requires no previous GIS experience. Visit the platform: https://lnkd.in/dXTutSkd and start exploring! ENCORE is paving the way towards greater #sustainability for the #PrivateSector! 💡🌿 With the launch of ENCORE’s new value chain functionality, users can now access data across both two tiers upstream and downstream of their value chain. This new functionality can provide companies with a clearer picture of exposure to nature-related dependencies and impacts across their value chains. The new functionality unlocks a range of benefits to companies and financial institutions, including: 🔶 Visibility of value chain links for 271 economic activities within ENCORE’s knowledge base. 🔶 Coverage of key value chain links two tiers upstream and downstream of each activity. 🔶 Visibility of materiality ratings for dependencies and pressures linked to value chain activities. Learn more in our new blog: https://lnkd.in/dMu-4XmA About ENCORE ENCORE (Exploring Natural Capital Opportunities, Risks and Exposure) is a free, online tool that helps organisations explore their exposure to nature-related risk and take the first steps to understand their dependencies and impacts on nature. The tool is maintained and continuously improved by Global Canopy, United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and UNEP-WCMC, who together form the ENCORE Partnership.
