🧀 We're thrilled to officially announce our investment in Nutropy, a Paris-based foodtech company using precision fermentation to bring us the cheese we know and love, without the carbon footprint. Zero Carbon Capital co-led their oversubscribed seed round alongside Big Pi Ventures, and joined by Big Idea Ventures, Beta Lab, Wyngate Inc., Desai Ventures, PVS Investments, Novax, and others. Nutropy raised a €7m seed round, including public funding, to scale their game-changing technology. We love cheese. But the reality is, it is one of the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Plant-based alternatives have failed to capture the market (just 1% share!) because they can't replicate the taste, texture, and melt of the real thing. Nutropy has solved the #1 problem that has held back animal-free cheese: functionalised caseins. Their B2B 'cheeseable milk' is a 'plug and play' solution that lets the dairy industry produce animal-free cheese that is as good as the original... and do it at a competitive price. 👩🔬 👩🔬 Huge congratulations to the exceptional founders, Nathalie Rolland and Maya Bendifallah, PhD, and the entire Nutropy team for raising this round. ⚡ Spotlight on... our portfolio company IONATE. IONATE are making a Hybrid Intelligent Transformer (HIT) with real-time optimisation of voltage and power through dynamic magnetic control. The HIT is a drop-in replacement for existing transformers, but it can also control three critically important power characteristics simultaneously. Earlier this month, Pippa went to visit the brilliant IONATE founders Matthew and Luca in their new home at London GreenCity, next to the river in Hammersmith. It’s an incredibly beautiful spot, and IONATE are making the most of this lovely new facility with flexible office and lab space. The founders of London Greencity have been inspired by the format of the successful Greentown Labs in Boston, and are hoping to create a similar hub of cleantech businesses with events and investor connections. 🏡💸 IONATE's year has featured several major milestones in their journey to modernise electricity grids. It started with an oversubscribed $17M Series A round, led by AlbionVC with participation from IQT, JGC, Santander Asset Management InnoEnergy Climate Fund, and Antares Ventures. 💰 We were thrilled to participate in this round, alongside other existing investors IQ Capital and Cycle Group. The funding is a huge vote of confidence and will fuel the commercialisation of their Hybrid Intelligent Transformer (HIT) and Aurora software platforms, particularly as they expand their reach into the US and new European markets. 🌍🚀 The team has been busy with pilot projects, including a critical partnership with energy giant EDP Renewables.
