Can sewage make tech cleaner? 💡 Yes! If we are talking about cleaning up how AI is impacting the creative ecosystem. A month ago at SXSW London, I was pleased to contribute to a recent BBC News piece on AI and music, where I shared both the potential and the risks of this fast-moving technology. Today, tools can generate music from just a short prompt, designed in some cases to replace the human creativity. On one hand, there is an incredible opportunity to enhance artistic expression. But on the other, there is a real danger: this kind of content could one day undermine the value of human creation. An we are already seeing it happen: ➡️ A growing flood of AI-generated tracks uploaded daily ➡️ The risk of diluting real artistic value ➡️ Non-human content being treated as if it were made by creators That’s why at Sacem, we have taken a stand partnering with Deezer, who shares the belief that this type of content should not be part of the revenue pool shared with real creators. Together, we have launched the first model to exclude non-human and “white noise” content from creator remuneration. This content can still be heard but it should not be paid the same as human creation. I was proud to share this message with Alexis Lanternier (Deezer) and the talented and committed Yael Naim. Our message is united and clear: AI must not grow at the expense of creators, their work is not free fuel. 🎶 The future of music must remain fair, sustainable, and human. ITV's path for growth – Addressability, SME opportunity and streaming This is based on a lovely beachside interview with Kelly Williams. Thanks for that. It's in the comments with a good write up by The Media Leader UK It’s worth noting TV in the UK went back to growth and the main question I have is how to continue that path and ensure everyone grows the market together. There’s strong optimism in the TV world – this is my opinion btw – and I think you’ll see TV be more proactive and confident about their products and perhaps shout a little louder. Additionally, I see this narrative far too often – that TV around the world is ‘effed,’ as if broadcasters are sitting on their arse and ignoring the challenges. Nothing could be further from the truth, and advertisers should be thrilled to hear that. Universal Ads is a critical development for unlocking new revenue streams, particularly in the SME market (FELT brands), which represents a huge opportunity for TV companies. The goal mirrors what digital has already achieved – expanding the addressable TV market and attracting new advertisers, both small and large. Brett Aumuller from Sky noted that the addressable SME market for TV is worth £1.5bn. It will be interesting to see how much of that TV can capture. For broadcasters, streaming continues to be the growth engine – ITV included. (This is a consistent theme across all broadcasters.) Kelly described it as "managing the transition," which feels like the right way to put it. When I pushed Kelly to predict what the market will look like in 2026, he was very optimistic. While he wouldn’t give a figure, with the Six Nations and the largest World Cup ever on the horizon, ITV looks set for a strong 2026. Kate Waters Lindsey Clay Elliott Millard Rhys McLachlan
