Milestone Infrastructure expects approval next week from Hampshire County Council to start the £47m final phase of the Botley bypass. The council agreed funding for this phase in July 2024. Milestone has been working on the scheme since 2022 and now plans to begin construction in February 2025, with completion by 2027. The 1.8km third phase will include a new bridge over the River Hamble and a roundabout junction, aiming to reduce congestion in Botley. Costs have risen from £31m to £47.5m due to market conditions and addressing unforeseen ground issues, but the council says the overall benefits still justify the project. Want to know how to lose top talent in 4 weeks? Here’s how. Five weeks ago, we were engaged to recruit a contract Project Engineer to support a busy team. Within days, I submitted an outstanding candidate, perfectly aligned with the scope of the role, immediately available, and coming off the back of a successful assignment. And then… nothing. Two weeks of silence. After following up, the client advised the team had been too busy to review. Eventually, an interview was arranged……only to be cancelled the day before. We rescheduled. I flagged the candidate’s immediate availability and reminded the client that great people don’t stay on the market long. The second interview was locked in. The candidate reorganised his day to make the rescheduled time work. But again, the client cancelled on the morning of the rescheduled interview…… now four weeks after the initial submission. That afternoon, the candidate withdrew from the recruitment process. The very next day, he interviewed with another company, was offered on the spot, and starts there today. The takeaway? Speed matters. Respecting candidates’ time matters. If your team is genuinely under pressure, lean on your recruitment partners to streamline the process …….but don’t let busyness cost you top-tier talent. The best candidates are in demand. If you’re not ready to move quickly, someone else will be.

Whats the number 1 rule when it comes to hiring a contractor? Don’t try and push their rate down at the end 🙅‍♀️ 🚫Not unless you want to lose them 🚫 What else? Sign off timesheets on time Don’t keep changing the goal posts with finish dates Don't treat contractors with less respect than your permanent employees Complain about cost once there's a commitment to times they can work The companies getting this right, have some of the best performing construction teams in Europe - no shock there. 2 way street though - if you're asking for the top rates, you've got to get the job done, and get it done well - but when you have all the above 👆makes that job 10x less stressful ✌️

Viridor are poised to be granted an environmental permit for the Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility. The project in Redcar is designed to process up to 450,000 tonnes of residual waste annually and generate electricity for approximately 60,000 homes. With the development having faced delays due to issues with connecting to the National Grid, pushing the expected operational date to 2029. The procurement process was temporarily halted but has since resumed after receiving viable connection offers. The project is expected to support hundreds of jobs during the construction period and once operational, the facility will create up to 50 permanent positions
