We've issued our first approvals for AtkinsRéalis and Marshall, both as Recognised Assessment Entities for Flightworthiness (RAE(F)) for the new generation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). These approvals follow the introduction of our RAE(F) policy - part of the launch of our UK Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA). Both organisations will work with UAS Designers and UAS Operators, to provide assurance against the technical requirements of UK SORA. The UK Ministry of Defence has announced a five-year £1.5 billion contract extension with British defence firm QinetiQ to provide test, trial, training and evaluation services for defence equipment across 16 Ministry of Defence sites. The Long-Term Partnering Agreement will sustain 1,200 UK jobs, including more than 200 positions each in Scotland and Wales, while supporting an extensive supply chain of 825 companies, with 590 of these being small-to-medium enterprises. The contract covers activities including missile firings, test pilot training and delivering live-threat scenarios to ensure UK Armed Forces equipment remains combat-ready. Under the agreement, QinetiQ will invest in modernising the UK's equipment testing capabilities and support around 30 early careers professionals through development opportunities such as digital training in modelling and simulation. The partnership has already supported significant achievements including the UK's first ballistic rocket launch into space, the first firing of the DragonFire high-power laser directed energy weapon against aerial targets, and Europe's first successful demonstration of teaming a piloted aircraft with an autonomous air vehicle. The contract will also support future capabilities including the Global Combat Air Programme's next-generation combat aircraft, with QinetiQ recently hosting the NATO joint strike exercise Formidable Shield at the Hebrides range in Scotland. #UKDefence #DefenceJobs #QinetiQ #DefenceContract
