“Engagement keeps refusing to die” says Professor Byron Sharp. He insists marketers don’t need it and their brands are not going to get it either way. As one of the fathers of evidence-based marketing accepted the Sir Charles McGrath gong at the Australian Marketing Institute Excellence Awards, Sharp spoke with Mi3 to debate – and skewer – what many would consider key tenets of marketing effectiveness, from attention and market mix modelling to personalisation and demonstrating immediate sales impact. The 'marketing scientist' is more convinced than ever these pillars are a confusing distraction that exacerbates the persistent problem marketers have in articulating their own worth to the CFO, CEO and board. Brand building, strategic consistency and reach remain the cornerstones of how brands grow, per Sharp. Our CEO Joanna Prior has signed a letter calling on Keir Starmer to safeguard creatives’ rights over their own work ahead of Donald Trump’s UK visit. The letter has been signed by a 70-strong group of organisations, industry experts and creatives accuses the government of “a shocking indifference to mass theft” of creative work, and a breach of artists’ legal rights.  Addressed to prime minister Keir Starmer, the letter came on the eve of Trump’s state visit to the UK, which is widely expected to bring about a UK-US tech deal that will pertain to areas including artificial intelligence. As the son of a retired music teacher who also loves cars - this campaign struck a chord. A digital Out-of-Home campaign from Audi UK translating the engines of its RS models into sheet music 🎼🎵 Each creative features a single line of sheet music, created by composer Ben Parry, that translates the notations of a specific Audi model named underneath - such as the E-tron and RS3. The campaign is a great example of the opportunities on offer to be brand bold and demand audience attention creatively through the public screen of OOH.
