🚨 Simmons & Simmons has launched what it says is the UK’s first dedicated AI law internship. The two-week programme starts in April 2026 and will take eight students into Simmons’ London AI team. Interns will work on "projects shaping the future of AI law and governance, as well as AI enablement and transformation." Top-performing interns could be in line for a future role at Simmons, with the firm keeping opportunities open for "outstanding individuals" on the programme. DIGITAL ID Breaches Human Rights Law: •The UK is bound by the Human Rights Act 1998, which embeds the ECHR into domestic law. •A mandatory digital ID (especially biometric or behaviour-linked) could face judicial review if it: •Collects or uses data without strict necessity; •Is disproportionate to the aim (e.g., fraud prevention could be done with less invasive methods). Example: When the 2006 ID Cards Act introduced biometric IDs, it was heavily criticised under Article 8. The Information Commissioner warned it created an “unprecedented database state.” It was later repealed, partly because it was disproportionate and unnecessary.
