Eventum Orthopaedics Ltd is improving the outcome of hip and knee replacement surgeries. It's technologies - Quadsense and Hipsense - are enabling this by improving surgical accuracy and reducing post-operation complications. Eventum Orthopaedics has received a £67K grant through the Innovate UK Launchpad programme via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. In addition to this, they've received invaluable support through Innovate UK Business Growth. CEO John Neybor commented that “Innovate UK Business Growth’s guidance has been crucial in refining our funding applications, helping us navigate the regulatory landscape and positioning us for long-term, sustainable growth." With this support, the company has raised £7 million in equity funding, created 10 new jobs, secured its first UK healthcare services contracts, and finalised distribution agreements in the USA. We're taking part in the largest surgical trial ever funded in the UK to help make future operations safer. 🏥 The trial, called ROSSINI-Platform and hosted at the University of Birmingham, will help experts understand how to reduce wound infections after surgery. They will recruit and monitor 26,000 patients who have had surgery to help find the best treatment options for wound infections. This will be across many types of surgery including heart and brain surgery. The Central Digital Wound hub team at Guy's and St Thomas' will be providing remote monitoring for all patients involved in the study. Patients can send images of their wound and information on healing via a digital wound monitoring platform called Isla. You do not need to download any apps to use Isla and it is available in several languages. This month we are celebrating a big milestone, 20,000 patients at the Trust are now signed up and using this technology. 🙌 These images will get reviewed and responded to by a trained member of the hub staff. This new approach to wound monitoring helps patients get the best quality of care, whilst streamlining the process to collect healing outcomes and reducing the burden on front line staff. The hub was initially created to sustainably scale remote care models and has been very successful. This was made possible thanks to support from Guy's & St Thomas' Charity, the Centre for Innovation, Transformation, and Improvement, Isla, and King’s Health Partners Cardiovascular & Respiratory Partnership. Ricky Vaja, Royal College of Surgeons associate surgical specialty lead for cardiac surgery and registrar at the Trust is leading on the trial for heart surgery patients. He said: "This trial will use a new way to find the best methods to prevent infections after surgery. Think of it like a knockout football tournament: we start with several different approaches, and after each round, the least effective one is dropped. The best performers move forward until we find the champions that really make a difference for patients.” Melissa Rochon, surgical site infections surveillance, research & innovation lead at the Trust who developed the hub concept, and one of the co-leads for the trial, explained the importance of this trial for both patients and the NHS: "This not only enhances the quality of care for patients, leading to quicker recoveries and fewer complications, but also reduces the financial and resource burden on the NHS. Our comprehensive and innovative approach will help streamline reviews and ensure better health outcomes for all involved." #TeamGSTT
