Dividing offshore areas into development zones is a practical step for research and project planning. However, one critical factor often overlooked is wake loss – the reduced energy yield caused when turbines in one zone impact the wind flow in another. 🔎 That’s why robust Wind Resource Assessment (WRA) and Energy Yield Assessment (EYA) must go beyond individual project boundaries. Without this, projects risk overestimating yields and underestimating cross-zone impacts. 📌 In Vietnam, current regulations do not yet define how to address wake-loss interactions. This creates both a technical challenge and an opportunity for developers, consultants, and policymakers to set best practices aligned with international offshore wind standards. As Vietnam advances its offshore wind roadmap, tackling wake loss transparently will be key to building bankable, sustainable projects.
