Congregation Shomrei Torah / Rabbi Benjamin Yudin

In addition to his duties as Rav of Congregation Shomrei Torah, Rabbi Benjamin Yudin serves on the faculty of Yeshiva University, to which his career has been inextricably linked since his own undergraduate days as a history major. He pursued a dual graduate study program, earning smicha (rabbinic ordination) from Y.U.'s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, as well as a master's degree in Jewish History.

A rebbe for many years in Y.U.'s high school division, the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy, Rabbi Yudin also held the position of acting dean of the James Strier School, where he currently teaches Gemara and Jewish thought. In addition, Rabbi Yudin chairs the Moshe Besdin Memorial Fund, which raises scholarship money for needy JSS students from Russia, Iran, and other countries.

Rabbi Yudin's numerous contributions to Yeshiva University were formally acknowledged in 1993, when he received the Yeshiva College Alumni Association's prestigious Bernard Revel Memorial Award in Religion and Religious Education.

Rabbi Yudin, who lives in Fair Lawn with his wife, the former Shevi Werner, has been the spiritual leader of Shomrei Torah since 1969.

Active in virtually aspect of Jewish communal life, Rabbi Yudin has served as president of the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County and spearheaded the construction of the Fair Lawn Mikvah.

Thanks to his weekly parsha commentary broadcast on radio station WFMU's "JM in the AM" program, Rabbi Yudin's renown extends to thousands of listeners in the tristate area. Rabbi Yudin's distinguished resume as author is notable for his most recent work, the introduction and explanatory essays found in the Artscroll Transliterated Linear Siddur, a landmark prayerbook designed to allow all Jews, regardless of background, to be full participants in the synagogue service.
