It has been confirmed that the Federal Government has committed to a digital future for Access 31! Read more about it »»
ACCESS 31 - broadcasting on Channel 31 - is a free-to-air community television station serving the people of Perth in Western Australia. It is the only type of broadcasting service in this region that has a sincere philosophical commitment to local programming, local talent and coverage of local events. And it is the only licenced community tv station in Perth.
ACCESS 31, on Channel 31, complements existing television services in WA. For instance, programs broadcast by the five free-to-air Commercial and Government services eminate primarily from the Eastern States and are augmented by a mere hour or less per day of locally presented news and current affairs. Virtually all their editorial and program decisions are made over East. So until the advent of community television station ACCESS 31, Perth was relegated to mere spectator status within the Australian tv industry.
The introduction of ACCESS 31 on the 18th June 1999 marked an important juncture in shaping the future of Australian broadcasting. Reserved specifically to showcase local performances and present programs of local relevance, Access 31 fills the void in local content on free-to-air television in Western Australia.
