Björn Lindman was chair professor in physical chemistry at Lund University, Sweden since 1978, now emeritus professor. After retirement he was visiting professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and guest professor at MidSweden University, Sundsvall, Sweden. Previously he was professor at Coimbra University, Portugal. His visiting professorships include Australia, Japan, Brazil, China, Slovenia, France and Italy.

His research interests are in the field of colloid science, notably surfactant and polymer self-assembly, polymer-surfactant systems, polymer adsorption, amphiphilic polymers, DNA, cellulose.

He is a fellow of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences as well as science academies abroad. Awards include Arrhenius Award of the Swedish Chemical Society, Award Colloid Division of Japan Chemical Society, Langmuir Award, American Chemical Society, Kash Mittal Award, Surfactants in Solution, Molecular Science Award of the Chinese Chemical Society and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Bror Holmberg Medal, Swedish Chemical Society, Overbeek Gold Medal of the European Colloid and Interface Society. Recipient of the IACIS lifetime achievement award 2015 for his lifetime achievement in science and the Lyklema Award of the European Colloid and Interface Society 2024.

He has received honorary degrees from Shandong University, China, Åbo Akademi (dr h c 1988), Yokohama National University (dr h c 1989), Nanjing University of Science and Technology (dr h c 1996). Cofounder (1986) and honorary member (2001) of European Colloid and Interface Society.

Björn Lindman has published more than 650 scientific papers in international journals and books. 5 monographs and more than 10 edited books. Textbook on Surfactants and Polymers in Aqueous Solution (with B Jönsson, K Holmberg, B Kronberg) (2nd Ed 2002) (translated into Chinese and Russian). Textbook Surface chemistry of surfactants and polymers, Wiley, 2014 (translated into Chinese 2024).

Several papers are highly cited, total no of citations 30000+, h-index 95 in Web of Science and 48000 citations in Google Scholar, h-index 110.
