Language Island

In this paper, we highlight two recently developed, technology-enabled platforms for documenting the small Walser varieties spoken in northwestern Italy. These platforms address the urgent need to record linguistic varieties that are undergoing rapid erosion. Through four case studies, we show that they also support fine-grained analysis, revealing structurally significant and original features shaped by centuries of language contact. Because they are readily available and easy to use, these digital resources can motivate speakers-especially younger generations-to engage with their heritage and help slow, or even halt, the dissolution threatening these "small languages".

The translations of the Parable of the Prodigal Son are an invaluable source for documenting the Walser German varieties spoken in northwestern Italy. This article examines in detail the varieties spoken in the two islands of Aosta Valley, respectively in Gressoney and Issime, based on a number of structural features that can be easily gleaned from old and more recent translations. This incredible wealth of knowledge allows us to observe significant differences between the two varieties that cannot be explained as the result of common convergence processes with the dominant varieties of the multilingual repertoire of the speakers living in these villages. While we observe clear cases of language attrition in Gressoney, the structural profile of the Issime variety is the result of a creoloidization process that can be traced back to centuries of intra-societal bilingualism.

The article deals with the question under which conditions the island language in the Language Islands retained or the island language is changed to the majority language or the island language is lost in favor of the majority language and gradually dies. However, before that, various functions of the language are analyzed. Finally, the term identity is explained in detail. This article is about the phenomenon "language changing" and its main cause "language contact". First of all the historical development of the "language contact" process would be analyzed and the term itself would defined. Then the possible linguistic consequences of the language contact on the target language are analyzed. Finally, the term "linguistic convergence" is discussed. This article is devoted to the formation of cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany  and the newly independent Central Asian states. As a result of the disintegration of the USSR in the 90s of the XX century, the Central Asian states gained independence. Initially, the main foreign policy issue for the countries of the region was to expand diplomatic relations and accelerate cooperation with the world's leading countries. In this context, the Federal Republic of Germany was one of the first Western European countries to establish embassies in all Central Asian countries. The article analyzes the factors influencing the formation of the Central Asian vector in German foreign policy. These include Germany's economic, political and cultural interests in Central Asia. In addition, in the 1990s, more than 300,000 ethnic Germans
lived in Central Asia. The formation of the German Central Asian vector is taking place in two directions: as an independent state, Germany participates in its foreign policy and in the common Central Asian policy of the European Union. It also laid the groundwork for the EU's Central Asia strategy for the first time under the German presidency. This strategy was updated in 2015 and 2019. This shows that Germany's interest in Central Asia is growing.

Abstract: In Polish historiography, Siberia is associated primarily with forced deportations as part of the repression of the tsarist and later communist authorities, but at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, voluntary migrants also went there. The village of Vershina was founded in 1910, and its inhabitants have preserved the Polish language, Catholic religion, traditions and customs to this day, although Russian and – to a lesser extent – Buryat influences are visible in all these spheres. The article concerns the ways in which Polish identity is manifested in the few written texts created in this community. These include song lyrics and church prayer books written in Cyrillic in Polish, as well as school essays on the history of the village written in Russian, a chronicle of a local amateur historian, and scientific works written by village residents.

Аннотация: В польской историографии Сибирь ассоциируется прежде всего с насильственными депортациями в рамках репрессий царской, а затем и коммунистической власти, но на рубеже XIX и XX веков туда отправлялись и добровольные переселенцы. Деревня Вершина была основана в 1910 году, и её жители по сей день сохранили польский язык, католическую религию, традиции и обычаи, хотя во всех этих сферах просматриваются русские и – в меньшей степени – бурятские влияния. В статье речь идет о том, как польская идентичность проявляется в немногочисленных письменных текстах, созданных в этой общине. Это тексты песен и церковные молитвословы, написанные кириллицей на польском языке, а также школьные сочинения по истории деревни на русском языке, хроника местного историка-любителя и научные труды, написанные жителями села.

A atual realidade da educação caminha em conjunto com as mudanças da sociedade em relação ao amplo e fácil acesso às tecnologias, principalmente a internet. A geração de estudantes de hoje tem a sua disposição o conhecimento na palma da mão, visto a autonomia da busca do conhecimento na web e a rapidez que isso ocorre. Tais impactos disruptivos provocam os seguintes questionamentos que motivam esse estudo: Na sala de aula, continuaremos a investir no ensino tradicional, tendo o professor como disseminador do conhecimento e repassador único das informações? Será que a tecnologia não pode ser usada a favor, como já vem ocorrendo no Ensino a Distância? Diante dessa necessidade encontrada, uma faculdade do Estado de Santa Catarina tem investido na formação de seus docentes acerca do uso de metodologias ativas de aprendizagem nas aulas tanto dos cursos presenciais quanto dos a distância. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo apresenta um relato de experiência de uma aula prática com os professores, na qual se fez o uso de Rotação por Estações, uma metodologia ativa que se mostrou como uma importante estratégia para provocar nas práxis dos docentes, em sala de aula. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar um panorama das pesquisas nacionais com a temática formação de professores no modelo blended learning, abordando a multimodalidade no ensino de Matemática. Metodologicamente adotou-se a Metassíntese Qualitativa, tendo como fonte de dados: o Banco de Teses e Dissertações da CAPES; os anais do Encontro Nacional de Educação Matemática - ENEM e do Seminário Internacional de Pesquisa em Educação Matemática – SIPEM; e o Google Acadêmico. As buscas foram realizadas com a combinação dos descritores “blended learning”, “formação de professores” e “multimodalidade”. A realização deste estudo possibilitou examinar as contribuições e as limitações dos trabalhos analisados, assim, espera-se provocar reflexões e estimular o desenvolvimento de novas pesquisas com a temática investigada.

The article gives a brief information on pedagogical and interactive teaching methods and the
effective results of their use in the educational process. Each student expresses his / her opinion
orally to the question asked by the educator in oral form. Learners state their answers clearly
and concisely. In the written form, students write their answers to the question on paper cards in
a short and visible way. The answers are fastened to the board (using magnets) or to the
―pinboard‖ board (using needles). They need to be able to find a solution to the problem posed,
otherwise when they fail to find a solution, the learners lose interest and lose their selfconfidence. When using the "problem situation" method, learners learn to think independently,
analyze the causes and consequences of the problem, find a solution.

The phenomenon of the scientific worldview is understood as an integral part of a student's competence development -future specialist at the university. Studying a university physics course contributes to the formation of the worldview foundations of transformative personal approach to the global unity of the world of Nature and the world of Manbased on the principles of coevolutionary coexistence, ethical responsibility and aesthetic understanding. In this regard, quite justifiably arises the need to identify educational potential and develop pedagogical aspects of the formation of a scientific worldview future specialists in the process of studying a university physics course.

The article examines the features of the formation and development of settlements on the
territory of Uzbekistan. The significance of territorial, historical, social and economicgeographic factors influencing the development of settlements, including cities, the possibility of
creating modern settlements will be studied. In order to support the views and conclusions
presented in the article, the number of settlements in the country's regions, their role and
importance in the territorial distribution of the country's population are shown in tables and
diagrams.

O Ensino Híbrido se apresenta como uma proposta de metodologia de ensino que fazendo uso da personalização, busca potencializar as capacidades dos estudantes, bem como tentar suprir as necessidades destes. Ingilo Georgian is a cross-border dialect of the Georgian language spoken in Western Azerbaijan. It is a crucial part of the Georgian dialectal continuum. Its distinguishing features are motivated by the heavy linguistic contact with the Azerbaijani language. The approximately hundred-year history of linguistic research of Ingilo Georgian provides a solid base to place the study on a broad field of linguistic comparison. With this contribution, we wish to start this process. The most characteristic grammatical features of Ingilo Georgian are highlighted and compared with other dialects of Georgian on the basis of the Georgian dialect corpus data. The historical depth of the empirical evidence of Georgian allows a comparison to both old and modern standard Georgian from the diachronic perspective as well.

A era da informação proporciona informações e referências teóricas de forma dinâmica e acelerada, promovendo mudanças em todas as esferas sociais, inclusive na educacional. No contexto universitário a tecnologia entra na sala de aula como instrumento social do aluno onde, sua fonte rápida ao conhecimento, modifica os papéis no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. O agente ativo na construção do conhecimento agora é o aluno, enquanto o professor torna-se mediador/facilitador. Nesse contexto, o objetivo desse artigo é analisar a aplicação da metodologia ativa Rotação por Estações para os alunos da disciplina de Planejamento Estratégico da Produção do 4º período de Engenharia de Produção da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, evidenciando sua eficiência no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Metodologicamente, utilizou-se da abordagem quali-quantitativa, caracterizando-se como pesquisa-ação. Os resultados obtidos comprovam a otimização no ensino-aprendizagem, colocando o estudante como protagonista no processo de construção de conhecimento, despertando maior engajamento e interesse pelo tema abordado.

Dessa forma, o objetivo foi realizar uma revisão bibliográfica da literatura nacional sobre o Ensino Híbrido. Esse estudo caracterizou-se por uma pesquisa bibliográfica, na qual a fonte de dados foram estudos publicados na base de dados eletrônica periódicos capes. Para as buscas dos estudos, utilizou-se como descritor "Ensino Híbrido" e "Blended Learning". Os critérios de inclusão foram: presença dos descritores no título e/ou resumo do artigo, publicação na língua inglesa ou portuguesa. Nos últimos anos, buscando desenvolver uma educação que atenda a demanda atual do mercado profissional, muito tem se falado sobre metodologias ativas, ensino híbrido, inovação no ambiente educacional, entre outros temas que nos remetem ao processo de ensino e aprendizagem. A Plataforma Moodle foi introduzida no meio academico com o proposito de direcionar o conhecimento e proporcionar novas formas de aprendizagens para o educando. A disciplina de Ingles Instrumental ofertada para no Curso Superior de Tecnologia em Gestao Ambiental, no primeiro semestre de 2015, na Uergs, unidade em Tres Passos, teve como diferencial o uso deste ambiente virtual como uma ferramenta pedagogica. The article describes jargon belonging to a limited vocabulary and their role in enriching the Uzbek language. There is also a discussion o f the study o f jargon in Uzbek linguistics, its social status, its types, and the special role o f jargon in the text o f fiction. When we look at world linguistics, most languages have such a "language" that this "language" may not be exactly the same in different languages in terms o f meaning and form. A dictionary ofjargons has not been compiled, and even explanations o f some o f the concepts that unite around jargon are not given in fu ll and in detail. Since jargon is a sociolect, its sociolinguistic aspects are somewhat obscure, but not exhaustive. After all, language is one o f the dimensions o f development. The tongue should not be molded or chained. It is constantly evolving and growing.

O ensino híbrido tem se mostrado uma ferramenta muito eficiente para os diversos estilos de aprendizagem. Code mixing in the contact of cognate languages. Against the material of Polish-Eastern-Slavonic language contact.
The article is an attempt to find an adequate theoretical approach to characterize the phenomenon of code switching and code mixing in Polish-Eastern-Slavonic language contact. To analyse the situation bilingual Eastern-Slavonic groups in Poland (Russian, Belarussian and Ukrainian minorities) and Polish minority in the East (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine but also Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and other former Soviet Republics) one needs to define the phenomena of bilingualism and code mixing (as well as code switching). It is also important to find and characterize similarities and differences between examples of code mixing described in P. Auer’s, P. Muysken’s, R. Franceschini’s and other authors’ works on one side, and in Polish-Eastern-Slavonic bilingualism on the other.

The article lays out the history of a Catholic church in Temir-Khan-Shura (present-day Buynaksk), Dagestan, built in the fi rst half of the nineteenth century by Catholic soldiers, mainly of Polish origin, serving in the tsarist army. Th e author relies primarily on the archival materials stored in the Central State Archive of the Republic of Dagestan in Makhachkala and on memories of Poles. Th e article also briefl y presents the history of Poles and Catholicism in the Caucasus.

One of the main items of this sphere is the history of the people to whom this language belongs.
This aspect of the problem is becoming topical now due to the fact that the English language is pretending to be a global language. This article covers two main aspects of the influence of the Great Migration of Peoples to the formation and further development of Germanic and Turkic languages. They are as follows:- Problems related to the language situation in Europe after the Great Migration of Peoples.- Problems related to the role and importance of religious factors in the history of Germanic languages.- Influence of the social factors to the changes in the phonetic structure of Germanic and Turkic languages during the great migration.

Beginning in the Middle Ages, various groups claiming Hungarian origins participated in the settlement of Hunyad County (located in Southern Transylvania). This circumstance therefore engendered different usages of Hungarian, based upon which the communities found in this county can be placed within the following categories: 1) native, closed communities who found themselves living apart from the rest of the county due to a loss of territory, yet were able to preserve their dialect for a lengthy period of time as a result of their isolation (eg. Lozsád); 2) new language or "dialect" islands that emerge as a result of state-directed resettlement efforts (eg. Csernakeresztúr, settled by a Szekler population originally from Bukovina); 3) Hungarian groups from various territories who have created new communities in cities throughout one hundred-fifty years of industrialization (eg. Lupény, Vulkán, Petrozsény); 4) communities that are presumably medieval in origin, yet were in continuous contact with a foreign-language environment, thereby resulting in a high level of assimilation, or a characteristic lack of dialectal features (eg. Rákosd, Alpestes). We contend that the last group’s dialectal neutrality can be explained by the fact that the Hungarian language’s secondary role swept these communities to the periphery of language exchange, a process that has been delayed, slowed, or even reversed in certain cases due to the positive attitude toward the communities’ native language by the Calvinist Church’s activities. The fact that their Hungarian language code was limited by its secondary nature rendered the continued presence of a dialectal foundation impossible. We hypothesize that the version of standard Hungarian transmitted by local intellectuals (preachers, educators) enacted a lasting effect on this reduced, local usage of Hungarian.

Vershina is a village near Irkutsk (Siberia) founded by voluntary Polish settlers in the beginning of the 20th century. People coming from various parts of Little Poland brought with them Polish culture, Roman-Catholic religion and a mixture of Polish dialects which they preserved until now in foreign surroundings. However, their Polish dialect has been evolving under the influence of the Russian language and nowadays there are many borrowings and loan translations (calques) in it. The other phenomenon observed in the speech of the descendants of Polish settlers in Siberia is code-switching. There are three main types of code-switching and code-mixing in the collected material: insertion, alternation and congruent lexicalization. The author names examples of each of the types and tries to give characteristics of the code-switching as a linguistic and social phenomenon.

Przybysze z różnych regionów Małopolski przynieśli ze sobą polską kulturę, religię rzymsko-katolicką, a także mieszankę gwar małpolskich, która do dziś przetrwała w obcym otoczeniu. Ich polszczyzna zmieniała się pod wpływem języka rosyjskiego i obecnie w ich gwarze jest wiele zapożyczeń i kalk. Szczególnym zjawiskiem, jakie można zaobserwować w mowie wierszynian, jest przełączanie kodów. W zgromadzonym materiale wyróżnione zostały trzy typy przełączania i mieszania kodów: wtrącenia, alternacja i kongruentna leksykalizacja. Autor przedstawia ich przykłady oraz próbuje scharakteryzować przełączanie kodów jako zjawisko lingwistyczne i społeczne.

Two languages – one identity. Vershina – a Polish village in Siberia.
Vershina was founded in 1910 by Polish voluntary settlers. During first two decades the village consisted Polish cultural and language enclave, but as a result of changes caused with communism, repressions and collectivization, the village lost its former ethnocultural homo-geneity. Nowadays the village regained its minority rights: religious, educational, cultural and organisational. However, during the years of communism and ateization, their culture and customs became much more similar to other Siberian villages. The linguistic changes were parallel to the evolution of the social situation. The language of Vershina is not a literary Pol-ish language but an interdialect based on dialects from the first settlers’ places of origin. Pol-ish dialect of Vershina has been under influence of Russian, which is the language of educa-tion, administration, and surrounding villages. Children and youth from Polish-Russian fami-lies become monolingual and use Polish very rare, only as a school subject and in contacts with grandparents. However, they still recognize both languages and try not to mix them. Thus, we can still speak about two systems. The cultural situation is completely different. During over 100-years history of the village, its cultural adopted many Russian, Soviet and Buryat elements. Nowadays even the maintained traditions are modified and constitute a cul-tural hybrid, which is the basis of a hybridized identity.

Although fi rst Old Believers migrated to Poland in the 2nd half of the 17th century, severe changes in their languages situation has been observed only since the 1st quarter of the 20th century. The generational differentiation of their idiolects became strongest in the beginning of the 21st century. The oldest members of the community of our interest maintain most of the Russian dialectal features, and the representatives of the young generation tend to abandon their mother tongue. The middle-aged generation is transitional and internally differentiated. The article discusses social conditions of language phenomena and the question of dialect maintenance.

The problems of language island situation have been present in humanities for over 160 years. However, in spite of the changing world, this question remains valid. The Polish community near Irkutsk – the village of Vershina is a 100-year-old language island. With the flow of time its social, economic, political and language situation has been evolving. The article is an attempt to analyse changes in Vershina’s dialect against the criteria of language island description. The present analysis is based on the results of research so far as well as on the material gathered during field research

During its first three decades Vershina preserved Polish language, traditions, farming methods and machines and also the Roman Catholic religion. The changes came to a village in taiga in the 1930’s. The village lost its former ethnocultural homogeneity because of Russian and Buryat workers in the local kolkhoz. Nowadays the inhabitants of Vershina regained their minority rights: they can pray in their own church, learn Polish in a local school and found cultural organisations. However, during the years of sovietization and ateization, their culture and customs became much more similar to other Siberian villages. Polish language in Vershina is under strong influence of Russian, which is the language of education, administration, and surrounding villages. Children from Polish-Russian families become monolingual and use Polish very rare, only as a school subject and in contacts with grandparents. The process of abandoning mother tongue in Vershina is growing rapidly. However, there are some factors which may hinder the actual changes: the activity of local Polish organisations and Roman Catholic parish as well as folk group “Jazhumbek”.

The present article is an attempt to describe the social evolution of the community of Vershina, a village founded in the beginning of the 20th century by voluntary settlers from Little Poland – from a cultural island to the stage of assimilation. The social, economic, cultural, political and language situation of the community changed several times. The most significant historical moments of Russia and Soviet Union set the borders of three main periods in Verhina’s history. During its first two-three decades Vershina consisted a homogenous Polish cultural and language island. The migrants preserved the Roman Catholic religion, Polish language, traditions, as well as farming methods and machines. Collectivization and the communist system with its repressions made the Polish village assimilate to its surroundings. With the flow of time, the generation of first settlers died and some of the traditions of Little Poland vanished or got modified with elements of the Soviet, Russian or Buryat culture.
After Perestroika the minorities gained some rights, which strengthened in the 1990s. Thanks to the political changes and the collapse of the SU the inhabitants of Vershina can found cultural organisations, cultivate their religion and learn Polish in the local schools. However, in spite of the regained rights, over the decades of mass sovietization and ateization, the culture and customs of the Polish community became similar to other Siberian villages. Young people from the group of our interest abandon their mother language, are not eager to leave Russia and move to Poland. The process of assimilation is intensifying while there are practically no factors protecting the local culture and language.
