Object Storage Service:Overview of resource plans

Last Updated:Jul 29, 2025

By default, OSS uses the pay-as-you-go billing method. As a more cost-effective alternative, you can purchase OSS resource plans to offset fees for resources such as storage and data transfer. If a resource plan expires or its quota is exhausted, any excess usage is automatically billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Note

OSS provides free trial resource plans for some features. For more information, see OSS free trial resource plans.

Purchase suggestions

Suggestion 1: Select a resource plan type based on your scenario

A common combination of OSS resource plans is a storage plan and an outbound data transfer plan. Storage plans are used to offset storage fees for OSS storage. Outbound data transfer plans are used to offset data transfer fees that are generated when you access OSS files over the Internet.

Scenario

Resource plan for deduction

Store files such as text, images, audio, and video in OSS, and the storage class is Standard LRS.

Standard LRS plan

Browse or download files in OSS over the Internet.

Outbound data transfer plan

For more information about the scenarios of all resource plan types, see Resource plan types.

Suggestion 2: Select a resource plan type based on the billable items in your bill

If you already have an OSS bill, we recommend that you select a resource plan type based on the billable items in your bill details.

For example, if the billable item is Standard LRS capacity, you can purchase a Standard LRS plan to offset this fee.

Suggestion 3: Select a resource plan specification based on the usage in your bill

If you already have an OSS bill, we recommend that you select a resource plan specification based on the usage in your bill details.

For example, if the hourly usage of Standard LRS capacity is 40 GB, you can purchase a 40 GB Standard LRS plan to offset this fee.

Suggestion 4: Troubleshoot the issue that you are still charged on an hourly basis after you purchase a resource plan

  1. On the Billing Details page, view the type, usage, and consumption time of the billable item.

  2. On the Resource Plan List page, view the type, total amount, and effective period of the active resource plan.

  3. Compare the billable item with the resource plan.

    Sample issue

    Solution

The bill includes the billable item Outbound traffic over Internet (NetworkOut), but you do not have an outbound data transfer plan.

Purchase an outbound data transfer plan.

The bill includes the billable item Standard LRS capacity, but you do not have a Standard LRS plan.

    Purchase a Standard LRS plan.

The hourly usage for the Standard LRS capacity billable item is 100 GB, but your Standard LRS plan is only for 40 GB.

Upgrade the Standard LRS plan to 100 GB.

The bill was generated before the resource plan was purchased.

Deduction limits

  • An OSS resource plan can only be used to offset fees generated by the Alibaba Cloud account that was used to purchase the plan. Resource plans cannot be shared across accounts.

  • An OSS resource plan is exclusive to OSS and cannot be used to offset fees for other products.

  • An OSS resource plan can only offset fees generated after the plan is purchased. It cannot be used to offset fees generated before the purchase.

  • A resource plan of a specific type can only offset fees for its corresponding billable items, not all fees. For more information, see Resource plan types.

  • A region-specific OSS resource plan can only offset fees for corresponding billable items within that region. A resource plan for all regions in the Chinese mainland can offset fees for corresponding billable items in multiple regions in the Chinese mainland. For more information, see Deductible regions.

Example

Fixed total amount

  • Storage plan

  • Anti-DDoS basic plan

A fixed quota is available every hour. The remaining quota cannot be transferred to the next hour.

  • Storage plan

For example, a storage plan with a specification of 10 TB can be used to offset a capacity of up to 10 TB per hour.

    • If the storage amount is 9 TB in the first hour, the storage fee is fully offset by the storage plan.

    • If the storage amount is 10 TB in the second hour, the storage fee is fully offset by the storage plan.

    • If the storage amount is 11 TB in the third hour, the storage plan offsets 10 TB, and the excess 1 TB is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

  • Anti-DDoS basic plan

For example, if you purchase two Anti-DDoS basic plans with a single-instance specification and a subscription duration of six months, a maximum of two Anti-DDoS instances can be offset per hour for the fees generated from reserved Anti-DDoS resources and early release of Anti-DDoS resources.

    • If there is only one Anti-DDoS instance in the first hour, it is fully offset by the Anti-DDoS basic plan.

    • If there are two Anti-DDoS instances in the second hour, they are fully offset by the Anti-DDoS basic plan.

    • If there are three Anti-DDoS instances in the third hour, the Anti-DDoS basic plan offsets the fees for two Anti-DDoS instances, and the excess Anti-DDoS instance is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Monthly subscription

Outbound data transfer plan

A fixed quota is available every month. The quota is reset on the first day of the next month. The unused quota of the current month cannot be transferred to the next month.

For example, you purchase an outbound data transfer plan with a capacity of 100 GB and a subscription duration of one month on the 18th of the current month. The plan can be used to offset 100 GB of outbound traffic over the Internet from the 18th to the end of the current month. The pay-as-you-go billing method is used for the traffic that exceeds the quota. On the first day of the next month, the quota is reset. From the 1st to the 18th of the next month, the plan can be used to offset another 100 GB of traffic. The pay-as-you-go billing method is used for the traffic that exceeds the quota.

Decreasing total capacity

Transfer acceleration plan

Fees are offset based on actual consumption until the balance is cleared or the plan expires.

For example, if you purchase a plan with a specification of 5 TB and a subscription duration of three months, you have a total deduction quota of 5 TB for transfer acceleration traffic within three months. The excess part is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Deductible regions

When you purchase an OSS resource plan, you must specify a region, except for Anti-DDoS basic resource plans. A region-specific resource plan can only offset fees in the specified region.

Note

An Anti-DDoS basic plan can offset fees for metered data from Anti-DDoS instances in all supported regions. However, within the same hour, it can only offset fees for a single instance in a single region. If metered data for Anti-DDoS is generated in multiple regions within the same hour, you must purchase additional Anti-DDoS basic plans to offset the fees.

Region type

Description

Global

Offsets the usage fees of corresponding resources in all regions and can be shared across regions.

Region-specific

Offsets the usage fees of corresponding resources in a specified region and cannot be shared across regions.

All regions in the Chinese mainland

Offsets the usage fees of corresponding resources in multiple regions in the Chinese mainland and can be shared across regions.

Transfer acceleration region

Offsets the transfer acceleration traffic fees for uploads and downloads that are generated when you access OSS in different regions using an acceleration endpoint.

Transfer acceleration M2M

Offsets the transfer acceleration traffic fees for uploads and downloads (AccM2MIn and AccM2MOut) that are generated when you access OSS in the Chinese mainland from the Chinese mainland using an acceleration endpoint.

Transfer acceleration M2O_O2M

Offsets the transfer acceleration traffic fees for uploads and downloads (AccM2OIn, AccM2OOut, AccO2MIn, and AccO2MOut) that are generated when you access OSS in the Chinese mainland from outside the Chinese mainland, or access OSS outside the Chinese mainland from the Chinese mainland using an acceleration endpoint.

Transfer acceleration O2O

Offsets the transfer acceleration traffic fees for uploads and downloads (AccO2OIn and AccO2OOut) that are generated when you access OSS outside the Chinese mainland from outside the Chinese mainland using an acceleration endpoint.

You can purchase resource plans for all regions in the Chinese mainland and region-specific resource plans at the same time. When fees are offset, region-specific resource plans are used first. After their quotas are exhausted, the resource plan for all regions in the Chinese mainland is used. Any remaining usage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

For example, a resource plan for the China (Qingdao) region can only offset usage fees for corresponding resources in China (Qingdao). It cannot offset usage fees for corresponding resources in other regions.

For more information about the regions in the Chinese mainland that are supported by resource plans for all regions in the Chinese mainland, see Regions supported by resource plans for all regions in the Chinese mainland.

You can purchase multiple resource plans of the same type. If you purchase multiple resource plans of the same type, the resource plan that expires first is used to offset fees. For example, you purchase an outbound data transfer plan for all regions in the Chinese mainland with a capacity of 1 TB and a subscription duration of one year on February 1, 2022. You also purchase an outbound data transfer plan for all regions in the Chinese mainland with a capacity of 1 TB and a subscription duration of three months on March 1, 2022. In this case, the outbound data transfer plan purchased on March 1, 2022 is used first to offset fees.
