In The Staggering Ecological Impacts of Computation and the Cloud, Steven Gonzalez Monserrate documents the environmental impacts of "the cloud":

- Carbon Emissions
- Water use
- Noise pollution
- e-waste

There is no reason to believe that cryptocurrency mining facilities are any better than cloud data centers from an environmental perspective, and many reasons to believe they are worse.
