The roots of Europe's mental health crisis run deep

This article looks at the trends, the groups at risk, the services and policies in the area of mental health. The European Commission’s communication on a comprehensive approach to mental health, adopted in June 2023, aims to place mental health on an equal footing with physical health and ensure a new, cross-sectoral approach to mental health issues. But, solutions must be sought not only narrowly within mental health care, but also in improving living and working conditions and facilitating social and economic inclusion.

Digitalisation in social protection

This report maps the state of digitalisation of social benefit systems in the EU Member States and Norway. It examines to extent to which interaction with citizens and back-office processes have been digitalised. The study highlights areas where digital technologies have been introduced to improve transparency, reduce non-take-up, lessen fragmentation, and improve service quality and efficiency. It discusses possible positive and negative impacts for institutions and beneficiaries and identifies safeguards to address risks. The report draws conclusions about the factors that contribute to success and the challenges in implementing digitalisation policies and compiles lessons for mutual learning.

Representativeness study: Tanning and leather

SME digitalisation in the EU: Trends, policies and impacts

Building on existing Eurofound research, this report examines how digitalisation, digital skills, innovation and training strategies influence job quality, working conditions and training access in European SMEs. It compares SME workers to the broader workforce, identifying barriers unique to SMEs that hinder skills development and job improvements. The report evaluates the status of digital skills, innovation, and training in SMEs and their connection to job quality and resources, investigating how digitalisation drives active training and skills development. It also identifies the key drivers behind SME engagement in these practices. The report outlines differences across sectors and regions and the best practices and effective policies that support SMEs in the digital transition, with a focus on fostering innovation, improving job quality and enhancing workforce skills to promote sustainable business growth.
