    This FAO Technical Paper synthesizes current knowledge on the impact of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events on fisheries and aquaculture in the context of a changing climate. It describes the diversity of ENSO events (Chapter 2), ENSO forecasting (Chapter 3) and ENSO in the context of climate change (Chapter 4). It includes a global overview and regional assessment of ENSO impact (Chapters 5 and 6) and a focus on coral bleaching and damage to reefs and related fisheries (Chapter 7). Finally, it synthesizes the lessons learned and the perspectives for ENSO and preparedness in a warmer ocean (Chapter 10).

    This publication is a compilation of some practical examples of the changes that are being introduced by the project under implementation. It discusses their context and the approach and presents some preliminary results mapped under the organizing principle of the Four Betters. As the project advances, further fine-tuning for optimization and new examples can be expected to be added. Moving forward, it will require sustained government support for scaling up the promising solutions in an equitable and contextual manner to maximize benefits for the rural livelihoods of Saudi Arabia.

    Ukraine: Impact of the war on agricultural enterprises

    The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations conducted a nationwide survey of 2 612 agricultural enterprises across 23 oblasts of Ukraine between October and November 2024. The survey covered crop and livestock producers of all sizes, excluding areas that were inaccessible at the time of data collection. The survey aimed to assess the impact of the war on agricultural enterprises’ operations, production trends and storage capacity; quantify damage and losses to assets and land; and evaluate disruptions to agrifood value chains and support systems. Findings confirm widespread challenges, including labour shortages, rising input costs, land contamination and power outages, all of which have undermined productivity and strained financial viability. This analysis is part of a broader effort to inform policy, programming and recovery interventions aimed at strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s agriculture sector.

    This is the report of the sixth meeting of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) Working Group on Spawning Aggregations. It was held in hybrid format from 6 to 7 June 2024 in Puerto Rico, United States of America and virtually.This meeting was organized by the Caribbean Fishery Management Council (CFMC) and participants included representatives of the WECAFC Secretariat, government officials, researchers and stakeholders from WECAFC member countries, and WECAFC partner organizations including, but not limited to, the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and The Regional Activity Centre for the Protocol Concerning Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife for the wider Caribbean region (SPAW-RAC). This report provides a record of the meeting’s proceedings as well as the updated workplan and recommendation of the WECAFC Working Group on Spawning Aggregations.

    Le Manuel de procédure de la Commission du Codex Alimentarius aide les délégations nationales et les organisations internationales présentes en tant qu'observateurs à participer efficacement aux travaux du Programme mixte FAO/OMS sur les normes alimentaires. Il présente le règlement intérieur de base, les procédures d'élaboration des normes Codex et des textes apparentés, ainsi que les définitions de base et les lignes directrices pour le fonctionnement des comités du Codex. Il indique également la composition de la Commission du Codex Alimentarius.La 30e édition du Manuel de procédure du Codex poursuit les efforts d'harmonisation du langage, notamment en ce qui concerne la terminologie synonyme, créant ainsi un précédent pour les autres documents écrits du Codex.Plus précisément, cette dernière édition contient trois changements à la "Section 4.6 : Principes d'analyse des risques appliqués par le Comité du Codex sur les résidus de médicaments vétérinaires dans les aliments",1) une révision de l'« Annexe C : Approche pour l'extrapolation des limites maximales de résidus de médicaments vétérinaires à une ou plusieurs espèces » ;2) l'inclusion de l'"Annexe D : Critères et procédures pour l'établissement de seuils d'intervention pour les résidus de médicaments vétérinaires dans les aliments d'origine animale résultant du transfert inévitable et non intentionnel de médicaments vétérinaires dans les aliments pour animaux non cibles" ; et3) un amendement consécutif au paragraphe 133, Établissement de la liste des priorités. Dans la « Section 5.1 : Tableau des comités, références des documents et mandats », suite à la décision de la Commission de réactiver le Comité du Codex sur les céréales, les légumes secs et les légumineuses, ce comité a été déplacé de « comités de produits (ajournés sine die) » à « comités de produits (actifs) ».Enfin, des modifications rédactionnelles ont été apportées afin d'appliquer les abréviations de manière plus cohérente et de fournir des références croisées plus précises en numérotant les sous-sections.
