The Teaching and Visualization Lab is a black-box room that offers 217 degrees of immersive projection on one smooth, curved projection screen that measures 85 feet in length. The room can host a variety of events including:

  • High-impact learning activities, such as immersive student-led presentations and digital poster sessions 
  • Technology-rich interactive instruction sessions 
  • Creative digital media exhibits
  • Simultaneous display of multiple devices (up to 8) for collaboration and presentation
  • Presentations of large-scale visualizations and simulations
  • Research communication 

Reservation requests are reviewed and accepted based on the following criteria: 

  • NC State University affiliation 
  • Impact on teaching, learning, and community 
  • Utilization of the immersive technology 

If you are an instructor and would like to use this space as part of a course assignment or final presentations, please plan to bring your students in at least 2 times: once for an overview and another time for the presentations. 

  •   How do I reserve and access this space?

    We are no longer accepting new reservations for the spring 2025 semester. Please use the request form for summer or fall semester requests. 

    • Fill out the request form and a Libraries staff member will be in touch with you within 2 business days. Please submit the request at least 14 days in advance of the requested date.
    • After your request is accepted, a staff member will be assigned as your main contact and consultant.
    • Your consultant will schedule an initial orientation to the space to provide an overview of the technology, design templates, and examples.
    • Scheduling follow up testing sessions is strongly recommended, depending on how you plan to use the space. Your consultant will help schedule testing sessions, so you do not have to fill out the request form again.

  •   How do I get there?

    Using elevators

    From Partners Way

    • Enter the library building.
    • Continue straight past the yellow stairs to the back wall.
    • The elevator is on your right.
    • Take the elevator up to the second floor.
      • Do not take this elevator to the fourth floor, you cannot access the fourth floor of the library from this elevator!
    • Turn right after exiting the elevator.
    • Take another right and go through the library gates to enter the library portion of the building. 

    From the Oval

    • Enter the library building, you are on the second floor.
    • Turn left and go through the library gates to enter the library portion of the building.
      • Do not use the elevator that is outside of the library gates, you cannot access the fourth floor of the library from this elevator!

    From the Library Gates

    • Continue straight past Ask Us until you see the third or blue hallway to your right.
    • Turn right into the hallway for the elevators.
    • Take the elevators to the fourth floor.
    • After leaving the elevator bay turn right
    • Turn right again, and continue past the stairs.
    • The door to the Teaching and Visualization Lab is directly in front of you.

    Using stairs

    • Go through the library gates past Ask Us.
    • Take the yellow stairs on your right to the third floor.
    • Turn left and continue straight to the stairs.
    • Take the stairs to the fourth floor.
    • Turn right and the door to the Teaching and Visualization Lab is directly in front of you.
