To me, business travel is highly rewarding, as it involves engaging with customers and exploring new locations. While it can be demanding at times, managing your schedule effectively and prioritizing self-care can help mitigate stress and prevent burnout. For instance, selecting accommodations with proximity to parks or beaches allows for a rejuvenating late-night walk or an early morning jog, a much-needed reset after a busy day of meetings. Additionally, to make travel more enjoyable, consider inviting customers to dine at local restaurants that offer authentic regional cuisine, rather than opting for upscale fine-dining establishments. This not only enhances the experience but also provides an opportunity to immerse in the local culture.

For me it's finding local eateries, cultural spots and things that aren't the trade show, meeting venue or airport. Also recently we as a team stopped using hotels whenever possible and found fantastic results both financially and culturally in AirBnB by using group housing for our company trips and wow does that make a difference!

    1. Time Management and Planning • Prioritize Trips: Focus on high-impact visits. Plan trips to cover multiple clients or locations efficiently • Set Boundaries: Block time for rest, family, and personal commitments, even during travel-heavy weeks 2. Maintain Health and Wellness • Stay Active: Even during travel, fit in exercise like stretching, walking, or hotel gym sessions • Eat Smart: Avoid fast food traps by preparing snacks or seeking healthier local options • Rest: Ensure proper sleep, even if it means limiting evening social engagements 3. Mental Health and Stress Management • Take Breaks: Schedule downtime to recharge between meetings and trips • Stay Connected: Call friends or family to maintain emotional balance

I know well, as I travel worldwide for industry events and conferences. Coping with stress and burnout starts with setting boundaries—making time to rest and recharge, even amidst a packed schedule. Proper nutrition, hydration, and movement are vital for staying healthy on the go. I also use downtime to refocus, prepare, or relax. By prioritizing self-care and using tools to streamline work, I ensure that travel fuels success rather than drains energy.
