Make training relevant and not a pander. Set work hours and expectations based on hours remaining. For example, my work requires 5 hours training weekly; this should reduce actual expectations of billable hours because it reduces actual time spent with consumers.

Case management staff often work with diverse and multidisciplinary teams, both within and outside your organization. Foster a culture of collaboration and communication among your case management staff and their partners. You can use tools such as case conferences, team meetings, newsletters, emails, or online platforms to facilitate information sharing, problem-solving, feedback, and referrals. Promote a sense of team spirit, trust, and respect among your case management staff and their colleagues.

See above about useless trainings. Collaborative efforts is hampered when there are more supervision from many higher ups. There is no collaborative effort when they tell you one expectation and then change it at whim. Then telling you it was your misunderstanding. Gaslighting is not team work.

4 Support work-life balance

Case management staff can experience high levels of stress, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma in their work. Support their work-life balance by providing them with flexible work arrangements, reasonable workloads, and adequate resources. You can also offer them wellness programs, such as counseling, meditation, yoga, or fitness classes. Encourage your case management staff to take breaks, vacations, and sick days when needed, and respect their personal time and boundaries.

Adding paperwork, additional consumers and no additional pay, not to mention no overtime pay, while the company reaps $$ when they don’t replace the co-worker who quit because there is no work life balance. Worklife balance in this field is laughable. Case managers many times take extended pay leave to recover and be able to return (without penalty?) to the job that caused the mental distress.

5 Solicit and act on feedback

Your case management staff are the ones who know the strengths and weaknesses of your case management services. Solicit and act on their feedback regularly, and involve them in decision-making and planning processes. You can use surveys, focus groups, suggestion boxes, or open-door policies to collect their input, ideas, and concerns. Show your case management staff that you value their opinions, and implement changes that improve your case management services and their work satisfaction.
