A healthy reduction in operating time should be the result of preventive and predictive maintenance. Healthy maintenance is the fact that it does not harm the operation or the asset. In addition to reducing costs with corrective maintenance, it extends the useful life of the equipment.

To reduce repair-related downtime during peak delivery times, implement a proactive maintenance plan, scheduling regular inspections and using predictive analytics to identify issues early. Stock essential spare parts and establish partnerships with trusted service providers for quick repairs. Leverage telematics to monitor vehicle performance and detect problems before they escalate. Train drivers to recognize warning signs and promote good driving habits. Maintain a backup fleet to cover unexpected breakdowns and use mobile repair services for quick fixes. Optimize fleet utilization through efficient routing, and analyze downtime data to address recurring issues and adjust maintenance strategies.

Must follow preventative maintenance schedule with sufficient spare parts in store. Understand more about the model and weak links of the model by studying the data gather from repair team and implement new plan to ensure minimum downtime for equipment. Provide training to operators to maintain optimal fleet with correct usage of equipment to further minimise downtime.

Modern tractors and straight trucks have highly complicated and expensive emissions systems. They are not designed for prolonged idling; a simple reduction in idle time can significantly reduce the wear and tear on the engine, and the after treatment system. The most common failure is after treatment related; and it is often one of the most expensive repairs. I excessive idle time will cause soot build up and eventually failure of the catalyst. A fleet should reduce idle time to 10% or less. The engine computers come with the ability to program an idle shutdown that will shut the engine off after 3 minutes of idling.

Active booking monitoring and planning accordingly so that such an issue does not catch you by surprise . A clear plan for maintenance and prep is to be discussed ahead of time with your team, including off and on duty schedules for staff members to minimize overtime costs. Spare parts and other materials to be acquired before entering the season (account for some business closing for the holidays). During fleet planning make sure you control the bookings in such a way that there are back up vehicles available while accounting for standing costs (budget control). Fleet management to properly and transparently follow through on the discussed plan and have the ability to think on their feet when unforeseen events does occur.

Regular check with Drivers / operators along with regular PM is the key, it's the small thing we do regularly that almost eliminates the bigger problems which are caused due to ignorance and delays
