    Whenever I'm working on a story based game, The very first thing I do is: 1. Sit with the level Designers and Storyboard team to visualize how the story is to play out. Then; I start to integrate gameplay mechanics and level elements in such a way that they drop cues to the story before; any cutscenes or npc interactions can explicitly drop the story

    Use the mechanics to help tell your story and only add mechanics that have some significance to the narrative and setting. It's okay to have some exceptions, especially those that aren't always available, like minigames or humor elements.

    Some of the best games that have shaped the industry had a perfect mix of gameplay and storyline. Valve has always been a pioneer in this regard Half life and Portal series had immersive environments, intelligent puzzles and cleverly integrated storylines that are told through characters, environments, dialogue. For example: In Half life, the resonance cascade and the ensuing chaos unravels right in front of the player's eyes. In Half life 2, the desolate environments, the creepy laughter in some places and the dialogue between characters reveal the story without breaking immersion. In portal 2, after an unexpected betrayal, every other level shows a passage of time and the narrative progression while providing excellent puzzles.

The narrative should influence player choices, while gameplay mechanics should support the story’s themes and emotional beats. For example, player actions can reflect the character’s development, and gameplay challenges can mirror the stakes of the narrative. Integrating story elements into mechanics, like environmental storytelling or dialogue choices that impact the plot, creates a seamless experience. Both should feel like intertwined parts of a whole, rather than separate entities it's the perspective of my side but different opinions may be observed so depends on the overall performance the answer may understandable.thanks

    I usually have an idea of the story/plot before I start anything else. I lay that minimum down and start planning out the gameplay. Once the core gameplay is concrete and layed out I develop out the story. The gameplay can elighten parts of the story so its very important. With this both the gameplay and story are aligned with each other.

    It's not so much about storyline as general feel of the game. It's like music - tempo of the gameplay must feel right. And theme of the user actions should match to provide immersion. This can be RPG, where main task is to father herbs and heal warriors, this can be economic game, some kind of tycon where main action is to get legal work done. How fmdo you develop great music? There is no an algorithm for that. One can only provide examples.

    I not a game developer myself but there's a lot of ways. will point 3 of them. 1. Do the world map with a lot resources like towns, people, mountains...., when you reach certain point start to thing about what you want to be on the world, and make quests a that kind of stuff, with character gameplay, think about the world bilding, etc. 2. Draw scenarios: Draw whatever you feel like, and then thing about the story background, world building and after that start coding. 3. Get a paper and a pencil and start to work around the world the characters, how they interact or just about the game, what kind of game you feel like to do, put boundaries objectives etc... At the end is being creative, build something and have fun with it!
