This is what do you want to improve. 2) Identify a secondary metric (also called a consequential metric). This is the metric to keep you honest. I once worked on implementing Six Sigma to reduce defects in production. Using tools like control charts and root cause analysis, we tracked where errors happened and made improvements. A QMS provides consistency, helps monitor progress, and drives continual improvement, making sure quality stays a top priority.

Fast forward a few months, and the person responsible for reporting gets busier and stops monitoring the performance of a recently improved process. It often slips back to its previous state, losing the benefits of a lot of hard work and leaving the business with a low ROI. There are many ways to automate monitoring and reporting now so that your key process performance metrics are updated automatically and delivered to your inbox (or wherever else you'd like to receive them).

In my experience, this involves identifying clear, and quantifiable objectives, setting KPIs with its related metrics to measure the process baseline, changes made, and track progress. There are well known indicators to measure the success of any process improvement initiative, such as Cycle Time (CT), Turn Around Time (TAT), Performance, Quality, Cost, Resources, Service, and CX experience (internal and external customers). By collecting and analyzing data to evaluate the Process Performance via Process Performance Metrics (PPM), results should be reported to all involved stakeholders and management in clear, detailed, and concise report.

To measure and monitor process improvement initiatives, set clear metrics, like time saved, cost reduced, or customer satisfaction. I once helped a team improve their onboarding process. We measured success by tracking how long it took to complete onboarding before and after changes. We also gathered feedback from new hires. By comparing these metrics, we could see the positive impact of the improvements. Regularly reviewing these metrics helps you understand if your initiatives are working and where further adjustments may be needed.

A good Quality management systems is designed to get change / improvement / inputs / data / analysis i.e. it demands ownership from everyone right from the top management, operator , inspectors, suppliers , auditors and even customers. Such designed and implemented systems / standards will cultivate quality mindset, process approach, risk based thinking and make everyone align with the business goals ultimately everyone's expectations are meet. Main benefit of Quality Management systems is that it brings ownership across the structure of the organisation to cultivate discipline, dedication and development.
